As part of our Mine Waste team in Western Canada, you'll help advance WSP's mine services by working with a close-knit group of engineering specialists, professionals, and technical staff. You'll contribute to tailings storage facility and waste rock spoil projects through geotechnical analysis, field investigations, design, construction support, performance monitoring, and clear technical reporting-helping clients manage mine waste safely, responsibly, and sustainably.

Your Impact- Support tailings storage facility and waste rock spoil projects through dam safety inspections, field investigations, laboratory testing and interpretation, design, and construction oversight.
- Deliver geotechnical analyses-including stability, seepage, thermal, tailings deposition, consolidation, deformation, dam breach, and runout assessments-to inform safe, defensible project decisions.
- Develop mine waste management plans, site characterization, and practical recommendations aligned with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and client objectives.
- Monitor mine waste system performance, interpret data, identify emerging risks, and recommend improvements that strengthen facility integrity and environmental outcomes.
- Produce clear proposals, technical reports, and stakeholder documentation while supporting project planning, execution, budgets, schedules, and deliverables.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior engineers through effective delegation, and champion a safety-first culture across office, field, and construction activities.
The Skills That Set You Apart- A bachelor's degree in civil, geotechnical, mining, or a related engineering discipline; a postgraduate degree is an asset.
- 5-7 years of relevant experience in mine waste management, tailings engineering, geotechnical engineering, or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Alberta or British Columbia, or eligibility for registration in one of these provinces.
- Applied expertise in geotechnical engineering principles and practices, including tailings dam design, mine waste management, field investigations, laboratory data interpretation, and construction support.
- Experience with environmental regulations, permitting processes, and recognized industry standards applicable to tailings storage facilities and waste rock spoils.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate project tasks, collaborate across disciplines, build trusted client relationships, communicate technical findings clearly, and mentor junior professionals.
- Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving capability, with a commitment to safe work practices and responsible technical decision-making.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including VBA customization, and experience with tailings deposition software such as Muk3D are assets.
Compensation- AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $98,800 - $130,800
- MB & ON: $90,100 - $124,100
- NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $89,200 - $118,500
