Job Title: Intermediate Instrumentation & Controls Engineer/Technologist Department: Instrumentation & Controls Industry: Natural Gas and LNG Location: Surrey BC and Calgary AB Position Type: Full-time Permanent Position OverviewAs an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, implementation, and commissioning of instrumentation and control systems for gas plants, compressor stations, pipelines, and wellsites. You will develop P&IDs, prepare instrument specifications and data sheets, perform design calculations, and support project scheduling and cost estimating throughout all project phases.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and update Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) in line with project specifications and standards
- Support project planning, including schedule development and engineering/capital cost estimates
- Prepare technical specifications, instrument data sheets, and material requisitions, and assist with bid evaluations
- Coordinate with vendors during procurement and review vendor drawings for compliance with codes and standards
- Perform instrument sizing and design calculations (e.g., control valves, flow devices)
- Maintain and update instrumentation databases, reports, and related documentation
- Review and/or produce project deliverables including control system architecture and block diagrams, communications network drawings, PLC and DCS panel drawings, instrument loop diagrams, junction box wiring diagrams, instrument indexes, I/O schematics and lists, and other required documentation
- Develop loop diagrams, junction box wiring, cable schedules, and location layouts
- Prepare control narratives, control philosophies, and cause & effect matrices
- Support programming, commissioning, and startup to ensure systems meet design intent
- Demonstrate effective teamwork and communication with I&C engineers and designers, as well as cross-functional collaboration with engineering disciplines, project management, clients, and vendors
- Manage and meet deadlines across multiple concurrent projects
Qualifications- Post-secondary education in Instrumentation, Controls, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or related applied sciences (degree or diploma)
- 5-10+ years of relevant Instrumentation & Controls engineering experience
- EIT or P.Eng designation preferred; strong technologists will also be considered
- Experience in the natural gas or energy industry is an asset, but not required
- Previous EPC project experience is preferred
- Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (e.g., CEC, CSA Z662, ASME B31.3, ASME B31.8, ASME Section VIII, API, AGA)
- Registration with EGBC or ASTTBC is an asset
- Demonstrated ability to apply engineering judgment to solve problems using established guidelines and procedures
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a high level of professionalism
- Self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

CompensationThe salary for this role is based on an average of 37.5 hours a week. The estimated range is between 85K - 140K annually, depending on skills and experience.
