Full Job Description
PGL Environmental Consultants are seeking an Intermediate Environmental Consultant for our Ontario market who is interested in working in a fast-paced environment. Our Ontario office is located in Whitby; PGL employees work a 37.5-hour work week, and all employees have the option to work from home or either office as and when needed.

The Intermediate Environmental Consultant is involved with the planning, management and execution of contaminated site projects at an intermediate level. They will work on project teams that include junior staff and senior review, with technical specialists, when required. Projects will vary and can include any of the following: Phase 1 and Phase 2 environmental site assessments, contaminated site investigation and remediation, hydrogeology investigations, monitoring programs, regulatory reporting for Record of Site Conditions and/ or Risk Assessments. Some field work will be required, generally connected with large, complex, difficult or remote sites, or for training of junior staff.

In addition to managing projects and providing technical direction, it will be expected the intermediate project staff mentor junior and entry level project staff. This person will also be comfortable interacting with clients. Participation in business development and marketing activities will include proposals, work plans, presentations, attending networking events and seminars, as well as building relationships with clients they are working with. An interest in greater involvement in business development and marketing is an asset.

Responsibilities:
  • Conducts all levels of contaminated site investigations including Phase 1 and Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments, Remediation, Risk Assessments, including field work appropriate to level of experience; generally able to manage all aspects of the project with senior technical support and review available;
  • Conduct hydrogeological investigations, monitoring programs and perform studies for the evaluation of environmental risk assessment for regulatory requirements;
  • Compilation and interpretation of site hydrogeological conditions from geological maps, reports, survey plans, air photos as well as collected physical and chemical data;
  • Project manager, responsible for managing all phases of projects, from development of work plans and cost estimates to managing field work and budgets and final report production;
  • Advises and liaises with clients on a broad range of technical issues related to contaminated site investigation;
  • Business development; building your network and strengthening relationships within the industry to attract and retain clients;
  • Provides technical direction and mentoring to junior staff;
  • Conducts technical review of junior staff work projects;
  • Contributes to the development of internal protocols and procedures.

Job Requirements:
  • Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Engineering (chemical, geological, geotechnical, environmental), Geology, Soil Science, Environmental Science, related engineering discipline or Toxicology.
  • Professional Designation such as P.Eng., P.Ag., P.Geo., QP ESA , QP RA or equivalent.
  • 7-10+ years of environmental consulting experience .
  • A demonstrated working knowledge of and ability to interpret relevant Ontario and Canadian environmental regulations, guidelines and standards, including O.Reg. 153/04 and O.Reg. 406/19 .
  • Experience working in a consulting engineering environment at a project management level.
  • Experience in contaminated site investigation, including field methods for characterization of soil and groundwater conditions and/or contamination (borehole drilling, monitoring well design/installation, and multimedia sampling methodologies)
  • Experience developing and administering project budgets.
  • Strong technical writing skills and strong attention to details.
  • Experience with work plan or proposal writing.
  • Excellent internal and external client service skills.
  • Excellent client relationship management and team management skills.
