Duties

Help

• Serve as Division Chief, Health Effects Division responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the work of a professional research staff engaged in environmental toxicological and health initiatives.
• Act as consultant in environmental and industrial toxicology to DOW components as well as other organizations outside DoW, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Environmental Protection Agency, and the Food and Drug Administration.
• Conduct toxicological research to identify and assess potential impacts to service members, public, and environmental health as well as to support acquisition and risk assessment functions.
• Plan, organize, direct, and coordinate basic and applied research efforts accomplished by teams of professional civilian and military biologists, toxicologists, and technicians engaged in performing complex qualitative and quantitative studies.
• Analyze utilization of manpower in relation to requirements, identify and eliminate marginal activities, and devise an effective, economical organizational structure, manpower requirements, and functional assignments.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education/experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements: Biologist (0401): bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of education and experience; Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Basic Requirement for Toxicologist:

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in toxicology; or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in the Federal service which includes reviewing research contracts; assisting with toxicological research; and assigning and reviewing work This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
