Title:
Integrated Protection Strategy Engineer - Junior

This is a contingent position based upon contract award

KBR is seeking Integrated Protection Strategy Engineer - Junior, to support the analysis and execution of collision avoidance strategies to ensure the safety of space assets in dynamic orbital environments. This role involves monitoring conjunction data, assisting in risk assessments, and supporting maneuver planning under the guidance of senior engineers. The engineer will work closely with mission operations and flight dynamics teams to maintain situational awareness and implement established protocols. Candidates should demonstrate strong attention to detail, technical aptitude in orbital mechanics, and the ability to follow structured procedures in time-sensitive scenarios. This position provides an opportunity to develop expertise in space safety and contribute to mission success. This role is performed full-time on site at a government facility and is contingent upon contract award

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Monitor conjunction data and assist in evaluating collision risk for operational assets.
  • Support the development and execution of avoidance maneuvers under senior engineer supervision.
  • Perform basic orbital analysis and trajectory propagation using industry-standard tools.
  • Document conjunction assessments, decisions, and actions in accordance with organizational standards.
  • Assist in preparing reports and briefings for internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Participate in operational readiness exercises and post-event analysis.
  • Maintain compliance with established safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to process improvements and tool enhancements for collision avoidance workflows.
  • Coordinate with mission operations teams during real-time conjunction events.
  • Provide technical support for anomaly resolution related to conjunction assessments


Required Qualifications:
  • Education & Experience: Master's degree and 1 year of relevant experience with demonstrated expertise, OR Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience with demonstrated expertise, OR No degree and 4 years of relevant experience with demonstrated expertise.
  • Foundational knowledge of orbital mechanics, astrodynamics, or aerospace engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with conjunction assessment tools or orbital analysis software (e.g., STK, FreeFlyer, or equivalent).
  • Active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance with adjudicated polygraph


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience supporting national security or aerospace programs involving RF threat environments, EW, or RF-DE effects assessments.
  • Advanced knowledge of hardening approaches, protective design, and verification methods for electromagnetic effects resilience.
  • Familiarity with relevant test and compliance standards and guidance (e.g., MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, HIRF guidance, and RF safety practices as applicable).


Basic Compensation:

$101,700.00 - $124,300.00 (this is for the Springfield, VA area only)

The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.

Additional Compensation:

KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short term incentives, long term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
