Position Summary

Southern Land Company, a national real estate development and construction firm headquartered in Nashville, TN is seeking a full-time Insurance and Risk Manager to join our dynamic team. This is a full-time, on-site position based in the corporate office in Green Hills. The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $135,000, based on experience.

The Risk & Insurance Manager is responsible for managing the company's portfolio of insurance policies and ensuring the company and its assets are adequately protected. The objective of this role is to minimize risk for the company by securing appropriate coverage and effectively managing claims when they arise.

This role plays a key part in protecting the company's financial and operational integrity by proactively identifying and mitigating risk across all business units.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Works with executive leadership and insurance broker in procuring appropriate insurance for blanket corporate policies as well as for project specific policies.

  • Maintain all corporate insurance policies and bonds (e.g., D&O, E&O, EPL, Crime, Fiduciary, Property, GL, Auto, Excess, Builders' Risk, Pollution, Cyber, etc.)
  • Lead and coordinate policy renewals and prepare applications for all lines of coverage.
  • Manage claims handling functions and track progress of potential claims and claims (worker's compensation, etc.) until such claims are resolved/closed by working closely with project teams, executive leadership, and insurance carriers.
  • Issue and track automobile insurance cards and Certificates of Insurance.
  • Ensure contracts are negotiated in accordance with standards established and guidelines set by executive leadership to adequately transfer risk.
  • Analyze trends, stay current on new regulations and laws, and keep executive leadership apprised.
  • Respond to risk related concerns and issues of internal and external stakeholders in accordance with the company's risk tolerances and recommend proper loss prevention and loss reduction techniques regarding liability and risk issues.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Skills/Knowledge/Experience

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to keep sensitive information highly confidential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to deal professionally with clients, vendors, and co-workers on the phone and in person.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to take initiative, use good judgment, demonstrate a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail, and carry multiple projects through to completion.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize work and ask for further clarification when necessary.
  • Ability to work under pressure with tight time constraints, as well as the ability to deal with frequent interruptions, unresolved situations, frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelors' degree required (concentration in Business, Finance or Risk Management).
  • 5 or more years of relevant experience as an insurance administrator, property/casualty insurance analyst, insurance broker's administrator or other related position in the property/casualty insurance industry.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the real estate and construction industry
