Job Title: Instructor - Genetic Counselor

Position #: - Requisition #:41291

Job Summary:

This position provides genetic counseling services for clinical patients with genetic and metabolic diseases to the population of the States of Colorado. It is associated with Children's Hospital Colorado but also serves the University of Colorado Hospital on the Anschutz Medical Campus, as well as several affiliated community hospitals throughout the State.

The individual hired in this position will have an academic home in the Section of Genetics and Metabolism but will work primarily in the clinical operations of the Section of Developmental Pediatrics. They will report to both Section Heads, with administrative

upervision provided by Genetics & Metabolism and clinical (and if pertinent, research) supervision from the Head of the Section of Developmental Pediatrics or their delegate. The individual will work collaboratively with other faculty and care team members. The successful candidate will join a group of approximately 30 genetic counselors who work with both medical genetics and specialists in other areas, including regional satellite clinics.

Key Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
• Provide outpatient and, potentially, inpatient genetic counseling for known or suspected genetic disorders.
• Share on-call responsibilities with the other GC faculty in their clinical group.
• Participate in the education of genetic counseling graduate students, residents, medical students, and fellows.

Depending on the role, and the primary clinical group in which the genetic counselor serves, additional duties may include:
• Genetic counseling support of various specialty clinics.
• Participation in research activities.

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
• Graduated from an accredited genetic counseling program
• ABGC board certified or Board eligible with board certification attained within 10 months of graduation

Condition of Employment:
• Must successfully pass a drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado
• Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications:
• ABGC Board Certified with one-year relevant experience
• Pediatric practice experience
• 1 year experience involved in Human Subjects Research
• Certification of training for Human Subjects Research (CITI, or equivalent)
• Experience working with patients and families with genetic causes of autism, epilepsy, and/or developmental disabilitie

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of standard inpatient and outpatient clinical operations and procedures.
• Ability to develop and present educational information to patients as well as to professionals.
• Ability to provide genetic counseling, and technical information in a comprehensive, understandable, nondirective manner to patients and families.
• Ability to work independently as well as serving as a team member.
• Ability to gather data and prepare reports.
• Skilled in communication, both oral and written.
• Skilled in establishing priorities.
• Requires ability to travel via car to outreach clinics.
• Ability to develop collaborative or independent

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$80,000 - $94,000
