Full Job Description
This position is National Remote. You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in Minneapolis, Virginia, Maryland, or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office for a minimum of four (4) days per week.

The Instructional Designer is part of the Optum Enterprise Training (OET) organization and serves as the dedicated instructional design partner supporting Genoa Healthcare. While aligned to enterprise learning strategies, standards, and technologies, this role is exclusively focused on supporting Genoa's business priorities and workforce development needs.

In this role, you will partner with operational leaders, subject matter experts, trainers, and stakeholders across Genoa Healthcare to design, develop, implement, and evaluate learning solutions that support onboarding, pharmacy operations, customer service, regulatory compliance, leadership development, system implementations, and organizational change initiatives.

The successful candidate demonstrates strong instructional design, communication, and project management skills, with the ability to translate operational processes and business requirements into engaging learning experiences. As a member of the Genoa Learning Solutions team within Optum Enterprise Training (OET), this role works collaboratively with fellow instructional designers, trainers, learning leaders, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality learning solutions that support workforce performance and organizational goals.

This position is full time Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm local time zone. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.

We offer on-the-job training. The hours of the training will be based on schedule or will be discussed on your first day of employment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Partner with subject matter experts, and business stakeholders to develop learning solutions that support Genoa Healthcare operational and workforce development needs.
  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain instructor-led, virtual, eLearning, and blended learning solutions that support onboarding, compliance, operational excellence, and professional development.
  • Participate in learning needs analyses and assist stakeholders in identifying training requirements and appropriate learning solutions.
  • Manage multiple learning projects simultaneously while meeting established timelines, quality standards, and business requirements.
  • Evaluate learning effectiveness using learner feedback, completion data, and other available metrics to support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Collaborate with instructional designers, trainers, subject matter experts, and business stakeholders to create engaging learning experiences and support workforce capability development.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • 4+ years of instructional design experience in corporate learning, workforce development, adult education, or related environment
  • 3+ years of experience applying adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies
  • 2+ years of experience developing eLearning using Articulate Storyline, Rise, or similar authoring tools
  • Experience designing instructor-led, virtual instructor-led, and blended learning solutions
  • Experience working with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and SCORM-compliant content
  • Experience partnering with subject matter experts to develop learning content
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or certification in Instructional Design, Education, Organizational Development, Communications, Human Resources, Business, or a related field
  • Experience supporting healthcare, pharmacy operations, customer service, contact center, or regulated environments
  • Experience supporting organizational change and business transformation initiatives
  • Experience developing compliance and regulatory training programs
  • Graphic design, multimedia development, video production, or content creation experience
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and relationship management skills


Telecommuting Requirements:

  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $60,200 - $107,400 hourly annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
