DescriptionIn this position, you will actasaninternaltrainingconsultant,collaboratingwithupper management, division managers,subject-matter experts, and end usersacross the organization to assess and addressemployeetraining needs.You willapply yourexpertisein how people learnas youdesign and developnew learningsolutionsthat inspire and enable Sargent & Lundy employees to continuously develop their skills, knowledge, andcapabilities.Youmustapply basic project management skills to lead your assigned projects through the entireADDIE developmentcycle.
Learning solutions typically include modalities such as online coursesbuilt in Articulate Rise and Storyline, explainer videos,exams,and surveys,as well as occasionaljob aids,instructor-led courses (virtual, in-person, and hybrid),andinfographics.Coursesoftencover technical engineering concepts and processes.Our team follows a rigorous set of processes and standards to design and develop high-quality learning experiences.Wea highly collaborative team where ideation and constructive feedback are valued.
The Instructional Designer position reports to theDirector of Learning& Organizational Change andworks under the supervision of the Instructional Design Manager.TheTraining & Development groupis positionedwithinOperations.
While this is a remote position,occasionaltravel to the Chicago office isrequired.The Instructional Design teamhas at least one in-office day per quarter. You may also be asked to come in to attend specific meetings, asappropriate.
Typical Activities Include:
- Gatheringandassessinga variety of sources todeepen your understanding of the projectaudience,content,andneeds.This may include interviewing organizational stakeholders and subject-matter experts,collecting and analyzing survey results,reviewingand evaluating existing courses and source content,etc.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to definelearningobjectives.
- Designinglearning solutionproposalsthataddressthe defined project needsand incorporateadultlearningprinciplesand instructional design best practices.This includes presenting your design proposals to stakeholders and incorporating their feedback.
- Draftingoutlines, storyboards, scripts, and/or prototypesto support development.
- Building polishedfinal deliverablesthatcontainclear instructional copy,adhere tobrand guidelines,andincorporatebasic graphic design/visual communication principles.
- Collaborating with other instructional designers, including participating in team brainstormingand design critiqueactivities,requestingand incorporating feedback on work-in-progress deliverables, providing feedback to other designers,supporting other designers on client calls and presentations,etc.
- Collaboratingwithorganizational support groups such as IT,Corporate Communications, and Training Admintoensure your solutionsalignwithSargent & Lundy systems and standards.
- Gathering and analyzing data and feedback throughout development and after the launch. Forming insightsand developing proposals to revise learning solutions based on key insights whenappropriate.
- Communicating project statusto relevant stakeholders consistently throughout the project.

Essential Skills and Experience
- 5+ years of professional experience as an Instructional Designer, Curriculum Designer,Learning Experience Designer, or similar position.
- Bachelordegree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology,Learning Sciences,English,or relevant field.
- Strongwritten, verbal, and visual communication skills.
- Strongrelationship-buildingand customer service skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Proficiencyin e-learningdevelopment software(Articulate 360 Rise and Storyline).
- Proficiencyin Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.
- Ability to work with templates and adhere to style guidelines to create polished and consistent final deliverables.
- Experienceworking withhighly technical, complex content.
- Experienceleveraging AI across the ADDIE cycle.
Valued But Not Required Skills and Experience
- Proficiencyin graphic design and/or video editing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud).
- Experience withxAPIstatements/data.
- Experience in the energy industry or another engineering domain.
- Experience with Whatfix, WalkMe, or a similar Digital Adoption Platform
Compensation Range$33.37 - $50.97
