Overview

HP PageWide Web Press designs, manufactures, installs, and supports a suite of industrial digital presses used in high-volume commercial and packaging print environments. As part of this ecosystem, advanced service training enables HP field service engineers and customer technicians to perform higher-order maintenance tasks safely and effectively.

The Learning Products and Training Development team is seeking an instructional designer to serve as the program owner for Train-to-Maintain service and support and Advanced Maintenance training across all supported press platforms. This role combines formal instructional design practice with hands-on mechanical domain experience to curate, update, and evolve a portfolio of technical training aligned with platform releases, upgrades, and service strategy.

Success in this role is measured by the ability to deliver high-quality training at the speed and volume required by a global service organization, while maintaining technical accuracy, instructional effectiveness, and consistency across platforms and regions.

Responsibilities
  • Own the Train-to-Maintain and Advanced Maintenance curricula portfolios across all supported platforms, serving as the single point of accountability for content readiness, accuracy, and instructional approach
  • Assess platform releases, upgrades, and service changes to determine training impact and prioritize required updates
  • Design, develop, publish, and maintain advanced service and maintenance training, with a primary focus on instructor-led courses, experiential labs, and job-aligned learning solutions
  • Analyze target audience needs, knowledge and skill gaps, content, tasks, and available resources to create appropriate learning objectives
  • Design, develop, publish, and maintain learning solutions to support cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning objectives for worldwide audiences, optimizing the media/format for the audience needs
  • Evaluate the success of training programs in terms of learning outcomes and relevance to real-world service performance.
  • Partner closely with field service engineers, technicians, trainers, and technical writers to translate complex mechanical and electrical procedures into effective, teachable learning
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share project information, content, and ideas for optimal learning products team deliverables. Partner with technical writers for optimal placement and management of instructions between documentation and training materials.
  • Work as a member of the learning products team both remotely and onsite as required.
  • Manage, track, and report on projects as requested and according to required timeline.
  • Determine methods to reduce required onsite instructor training delivery where appropriate, such as convert to eLearning or remote delivery.
  • Incorporate and consult on use of video to augment instruction.
  • Incorporate translated content to produce localized versions as required.
  • Seek, facilitate, and incorporate feedback from peers, subject matter experts, and customers.
  • Locate or create appropriate, on-brand graphics to illustrate concepts.
  • Incorporate required GUIs/screens.
  • Work within HP brand identity.

Qualifications, education, and experience
  • Demonstrated experience as an instructional designer developing technical training for mechanical or electro-mechanical systems, or equivalent experience combining instructional design with hands-on service or technician work
  • Hands-on familiarity with basic technician toolsets (e.g., torque wrenches, fasteners, mechanical adjustment tools)
  • Experience creating experiential learning, including labs, hands-on exercises, and job aids
  • Strong ability to conduct task analysis and develop instructional and performance objectives aligned to real service work
  • Working knowledge of industrial safety practices, including lockout/tagout
  • Ability to work effectively with service engineers and technicians as subject matter experts
  • Experience supporting global training programs and localization
  • Strong project management skills and ability to work under deadline pressures
  • Excellent communication skills for visual, written, and verbal communication, plus very strong listening, questioning, and interviewing skills
  • Experience with cross-cultural competency and sensitivity, designing to meet needs of a global audience and different learning styles
  • Experience developing for instructor-led delivery
  • Experience publishing within a Learning Management System
  • Self-starter with ability to work comfortably and successfully within a large, complex, matrixed organization, under high degree of ambiguity and change
