Description We are seeking a Field Inspector to perform on-site inspection and monitoring of heavy civil infrastructure construction projects including pipelines, pump stations, tanks and reservoirs, dams, levees, and groundwater wells. This position ensures construction work is performed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, safety requirements, and applicable codes, and provides daily field documentation to support quality, schedule, and contract compliance.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties - Inspect construction activities to verify compliance with drawings, specifications, permits, and contract requirements.
- Observe and document construction of pipelines, pump stations, tanks, dams, levees, and groundwater wells.
- Monitor contractor work practices related to safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
- Verify materials, workmanship, line and grade, testing, and installed quantities.
- Perform daily site observations and prepare accurate daily inspection reports.
- Coordinate with construction managers, office engineers, contractors, and designers to resolve field issues.
- Witness testing and inspections including pressure testing, concrete placement, compaction, and system startup activities.
- Identify and document non-conforming work and follow through on corrective actions.
- Assist with punch-list development, as-built verification, and project closeout documentation.
Minimum Qualifications - High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's degree or technical training preferred).
- Minimum 2-5 years of field inspection or construction experience on heavy civil construction projects.
- Experience with infrastructure construction such as pipelines, pump stations, tanks, dams, levees, or wells.
- Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and inspection practices.
- Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications.
- Strong written communication skills for field documentation and reporting.
- Familiarity with construction management or inspection reporting software.
- Ability to take and pass all GEI required construction safety related training courses.
- Valid U.S. driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, related engineering degree or comprehensive equivalent field experience.
- Registered Engineer in Training (EIT) certification in California.
- Registered Certified Construction Manager In-Training (CMIT) through Construction Management Association of America.
- Certifications in construction inspection, materials testing, or safety (e.g., ACI, AWS, NACE, QSP/QSD).
