Infrastructure Engineer - NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) Operations

Durham, NC Hybrid: 3 days onsite / 2 days remote

The Infrastructure Engineer will support Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) instrumentation and high-throughput genetic data processing operations. This role combines Linux server administration, AWS cloud engineering, distributed computing, and medical device system configuration. Candidates will apply strong IT infrastructure fundamentals while receiving extensive training in NGS workflows, sequencing instrumentation, and advanced cloud-based pipeline orchestration.

Job Responsibilities
  • Administer Linux servers supporting NGS instrumentation and genetic data processing workflows
  • Build and manage AWS cloud infrastructure, including serverless orchestration for sequencing pipelines
  • Configure and support NGS medical device instrumentation systems
  • Work with grid computing and HPC environments for distributed data processing
  • Develop automation scripts and tools using Python, Bash, and PowerShell, leveraging AI tools to streamline operations
  • Orchestrate data processing pipelines from raw sequencing data through final readable results
  • Collaborate with vendors on system integration, troubleshooting, and new technology implementations
  • Support internal customers with technical guidance and solutions
  • Learn and adapt to rapidly evolving NGS technologies, cloud platforms, and vendor systems
  • Participate in off-schedule maintenance windows and support activities
  • Engage in regular collaboration with instrumentation and technology vendors

Minimum Qualifications
  • 3 or more years of experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, network operations, or cloud platform support
  • 2 or more years of experience using a scripting language such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell
  • 1 or more years of experience using AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot) to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency
  • 3 or more years of experience supporting and troubleshooting enterprise systems or network infrastructure

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Cybersecurity/Information Security, Cloud Computing/Cloud Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering
  • 1 or more years of experience working with AWS cloud services
  • 1 or more years of experience in Linux server administration
  • 1 or more years of experience with Windows environments and PowerShell scripting
  • 1 or more years of experience with grid computing, HPC clusters, or distributed computing systems
  • 1 or more years of experience supporting NGS instrumentation, NGS medical devices, or laboratory instrumentation
  • 1 or more years of experience in automation or scripting

  • Comfortable using AI tools to accelerate work, including writing scripts, troubleshooting issues, or learning unfamiliar systems

Pay Range: $70,000-$120,000

All job offers will be based on a candidate's skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data
