Job Description:

Madison Collegeis seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to join our Desktop Infrastructure team within Technology Services. This position provides technical leadership in the management, deployment and security of enterprise desktop environments to ensure a stable, standardized and secure computing infrastructure. Success in this role involves troubleshooting complex technical issues, optimizing system performance, managing software distribution and implementing security measures to enhance operational efficiency. This position contributes to institutional objectives by aligning technology solutions with organizational needs, improving system reliability and supporting an effective technology experience for faculty, staff and students.

This is a full-time, exempt, year-round position based at Madison College's Truax Campus in Madison, Wisconsin. The current work arrangement is a hybrid schedule of two days onsite and three days remote; however, remote work flexibility may be expanded based on business needs, job responsibilities, and college policy. Candidates must reside within, or be willing to relocate to, a reasonable commuting distance of the Madison College district to support onsite responsibilities as needed. Relocation reimbursement is not provided for this position.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Leads the design, implementation and maintenance of enterprise desktop solutions, ensuring stability, security and efficiency across physical and virtual environments.
  • Manages application deployment by planning, testing and optimizing software configurations to support a standardized and functional desktop infrastructure.
  • Enhances system performance and security by monitoring endpoint environments, troubleshooting complex technical issues and implementing updates, patches and security policies.
  • Supports enterprise desktop operations by overseeing multi-tiered infrastructure, integrating third-party applications and ensuring high availability for critical systems.
  • Provides expert consultation and advanced troubleshooting to resolve escalated technical issues, minimizing disruptions and ensuring operational continuity.
  • Leads technology initiatives by evaluating emerging tools, recommending new solutions and aligning desktop services with institutional and security best practices.
  • Develops and maintains technical documentation and standardized procedures to improve system administration, deployment efficiency and team collaboration.
  • Supports training and development efforts by mentoring team members, guiding best practices and ensuring software deployment strategies align with business and academic needs.
  • Contributes to an inclusive, equitable and supportive environment where everyone at the institution feels valued, respected and empowered to reach their full potential.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of enterprise desktop environments, including operating systems, virtualization technologies, software deployment and endpoint security.
  • Knowledge of software distribution methodologies, patch management and security compliance.
  • Knowledge of endpoint management software, including deployment and lifecycle management of operating systems and applications across endpoint devices.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts and technology, including protocols, connectivity troubleshooting and network security.
  • Skill in troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues related to desktop applications, system configurations and third-party integrations.
  • Ability to lead desktop engineering initiatives, assess emerging technologies and align deployment strategies.
  • Skill in engaging positively with all populations and communities, contributing to a safe and inclusive learning and work environment.
  • Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's (or Associate's AND equivalent relevant work experience or certifications)
