About the position

Duties
The Infrastructure Architect works closely with infrastructure, security, application, and business teams to develop, maintain, and guide the organization's infrastructure architecture strategy across cloud and on-premises environments. The role leads the design of secure, scalable, resilient, and cost-effective infrastructure solutions, providing architectural leadership for networks, servers, virtualization, cloud services, identity services, cybersecurity, data centres, and operational platforms. The successful candidate will possess extensive experience in enterprise infrastructure architecture, hybrid cloud design, technology modernization, and cross-functional technical leadership.

As an Infrastructure Architect, your key responsibilities will include:

- Lead the design, modernization, and governance of secure, scalable, and resilient hybrid infrastructure solutions across cloud and on-premises environments.
- Develop infrastructure strategies, roadmaps, and architecture standards that align with organizational priorities, enterprise architecture, and security requirements.
- Provide expert technical leadership and advice on infrastructure technologies, performance optimization, risk management, and strategic technology decisions.
- Design and oversee disaster recovery, business continuity, and resiliency solutions to ensure the availability of critical services and systems.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, Shared Services Canada, cybersecurity partners, and vendors to deliver infrastructure solutions and resolve complex technical issues.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and drive innovation, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and support digital transformation.
- Produce and maintain architecture documentation, standards, and governance artifacts while ensuring compliance with security, regulatory, and Government of Canada requirements.

Work environment
FINTRAC is a separate agency and has its own classification system. This position is classified as FC-08 and is generally comparable to (but not an exact equivalent of) the IT-04 group and level.

This position requires onsite presence at FINTRAC headquarters (234 Laurier Avenue West, Ottawa, Ontario) a minimum of three (3) days per week, with the remaining workdays completed remotely, where operationally feasible. Onsite presence may increase beyond three (3) days per week based on operational or organizational requirements.

EXPERIENCE:

E1 - Minimum ten (10) years of progressive experience in IT infrastructure, networking, cloud technologies, systems engineering or related disciplines, including a minimum of five (5) years in an infrastructure architecture, solution architecture or senior technical leadership role.

E2 - Recent* and significant** experience leading the design and implementation of enterprise-scale infrastructure and network solutions across both on-premises and cloud environments.

E3 - Extensive experience developing and maintaining infrastructure architecture strategies, standards, roadmaps, and technology modernization initiatives.

E4 - Significant** experience in enterprise networking and network architecture, including the design, implementation, and governance of complex network services and technologies (e.g., routing, switching, SD-WAN, VPN, wireless, DNS/DHCP, load balancing, network segmentation, and hybrid cloud connectivity).

E5 - Demonstrated experience designing secure, resilient, highly available, and scalable infrastructure and network solutions, incorporating cybersecurity and Zero Trust principles.

E6 - Significant** experience designing, implementing, or governing enterprise infrastructure technologies, including cloud platforms, data centre technologies, virtualization, identity and access management services, storage, compute, and network security solutions.

E7 - Recent* and significant** experience leading cross-functional projects, technical teams, and vendor engagements, while providing architectural guidance and governance.

E8 - Recent* and significant** experience preparing and presenting architecture artifacts, technical standards, business cases, strategic options analyses, and recommendations for senior management and executive decision-makers.

*Recent experience is defined as acquired within the last five (5) years.

** Significant experience is defined as having the depth and breadth of activities, as well as the complexity, diversity, and level of autonomy typically associated with having performed such duties for a minimum of five (5) years of cumulative experience.

K1 - Knowledge of enterprise infrastructure architecture principles, frameworks, and best practices, including the design and governance of complex IT environments.

K2 - Advanced knowledge of enterprise networking architecture and technologies, including routing, switching, SD-WAN, VPN, wireless networking, DNS, DHCP, load balancing, network segmentation, hybrid cloud connectivity, and network security principles.

K3 - Knowledge of cloud computing and hybrid infrastructure architectures, including cloud services, migration strategies, integration patterns, and operational models for Azure, AWS, or similar platforms.

K4 - Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and security architecture, including Zero Trust, identity and access management, security controls, risk management, and regulatory compliance requirements.

K5 - Knowledge of data centre, virtualization, storage, compute, and infrastructure automation technologies, including VMware, Hyper-V, containers, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), and modern infrastructure management practices.

AEX2 - Professional certifications such as TOGAF, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, CISSP, CCNP, VMware VCP, or ITIL.

AEX3 - Experience leading enterprise cloud adoption, infrastructure modernization, or data centre transformation initiatives within large and complex organizations.
