Position OverviewThe Network & Infrastructure Engineer serves as the primary technical authority for all network and systems infrastructure activities within the 645 AESS. This role is responsible for the architecture, implementation, security, and maintenance of the IT infrastructure supporting high-priority special aircraft programs. The Engineer will be responsible for the complete lifecycle of our network and systems infrastructure, from architecture and implementation to security and maintenance.
Responsibilities
Network & Systems Architecture:
- Design, deploy, and manage a robust network infrastructure, including LAN/WAN, firewalls, routers, and switches.
- Develop and maintain scalable, secure, and resilient infrastructure solutions to support squadron operations, field services, and special projects.
- Install, configure, and manage physical and virtual servers, storage systems, and other data center infrastructure.
- Infrastructure Operations & Optimization:
- Establish and execute procedures for optimal system performance, high availability, and disaster recovery.
- Proactively monitor network and system performance, rapidly troubleshooting issues and optimizing for speed, reliability, and scalability.
- Oversee server and network asset inventory programs to ensure the complete integrity of the infrastructure.
- Define and implement maintenance and repair concepts for unique systems that have limited availability and strict operational protocols.
- Security, Compliance, & Process Improvement:
- Proactively identify and remediate security vulnerabilities through in-depth system analysis and regular security audits.
- Ensure systems comply with DoD and AirForce security mandates, including implementing and maintaining Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
- Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and VPNs.
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive backup and disaster recovery plans and procedures.
Qualifications
A minimum of 12 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree, 8 years with a master’s degree, a PhD with 5 years’ experience, or equivalent experience is typically required for an employee at this level.5+ years of hands-on experience in network engineering or infrastructure role, with a working knowledge of security policies.
Must have a TS/SCI
Proficient with routing protocols, switching, VPNs, and firewalls. Experience with Cisco, Juniper, or similar enterprise-grade network hardware.
Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux server administration
Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, or other virtualization platforms.
Bachelor’s degree in Information technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Security+ or higher certification (e.g., CISSP, CASP+).
