Responsibilities

The Office of Space Weather Observations (SWO) under NESDISis responsible foradvancing space weather observational capabilities to meet NOAA programmatic needs. NOAAs Space Weather Next (SWX) programmaintainsand extends space weather observations from various vantage points, selected to most efficiently provide comprehensive knowledge of the Sun and the near-Earth space environment needed to protect our technological infrastructure.

The Space Weather Ground Services (SWGS)is responsible forcomprehensive ground services for all SWX projects, ensuring successful implementation and operation ofobservingassets and ensuring the continuity of space weather measurements made by SWFO-L1 and the GOES-R series satellites.

The SWGS Mission Operations Services (MOS) program must provide a fullmission satellitecommand and control solution to support the L1 Series with two new independently launched observatories.

Overview:

Peratonis seeking anInformation Systems Security Engineertosupportcybersecurityactivitiesacross a new satellite ground system development program supporting the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Thisposition willsupportall cybersecurity and information assurance activities throughout the full system lifecyclefrom architecture and design through integration, assessment, authorization,operationaldeploymentand continuous monitoring.

The selected candidate willbe responsible forsupportingthe programs cybersecurityfunction, ensuring compliance with federal security requirements, and implementation of securearchitecture, controls, and processes for a FISMA High-impact system. This role requires close collaboration with other program functional elements including Systems Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT), Software Engineering, Networks,Infrastructure, Architecture, Operations,Qualityand program leadership to ensure cybersecurity is fully integrated into system design and delivery.

  • Ensures system security needs areestablishedand maintained for operations development, security requirements definition, security risk assessment, systems analysis, systems design, security test and evaluation,assessment and authorization, systems hardening, vulnerability testing and scanning, incident response, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
  • Develops andmaintainssecurity documentation to include System Security Plan (SSP), FIPS 199, FIPS 200 andotherassociated compliance documentation
  • Provides analytical support for security policy development and analysis.
  • May interface with external entities including law enforcement, intelligence and other government organizations and agencies.
  • Support inA&A assessments, ATO authorizations,securitydocumentation, and regular scans/tests/patches.
  • Support the NOAA cyber security mission by building, configuring, troubleshooting, and updating the network security capabilities that protect NOAA core networks and information.
  • Monitor network connectivity and ensure high quality data transmission using standard network tools.

  • Experience working within a distributed virtual team environment, withproficiencyin remote collaboration tools and practices.
  • 3+ years of experience with the NISTSP800-53 security controls,Risk Management Framework (RMF)andsystem A&A processes.
  • Experience working inScaled Agile Framework (SAFe)environments or similar Agile methodologies.
  • Experience in Agile/DevSecOpsand ZTAmethodologies
  • Ability to obtain and hold a Public Trust clearance 6 US Citizenship isrequired
  • CISSP or comparable certification (e.g., CEH, CISM,CISA,GSLC)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Network andfirewallengineering experience with designing, implementation, andmaintaininglayer 2 and 3 networking devices and/orfirewalldevices.
  • Experience with Jira/ Confluence Atlassian tools
  • Knowledge of the OSI 7-layer model, TCP/IPand common application layer protocols.
  • Experience supporting NOAA, NASA, or national space mission programs, particularly ground systems.
  • Prior experiencewithConfigurationManagement andQuality Assuranceprocesses fornew programsor large system deployments.
  • Active Public Trust clearance.

Target Salary Range$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individuals experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
