What you will do:
Responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and directing the Infection Prevention Plan and Program. The Infection Preventionist (IP) is responsible for the management and day-to-day activities of all hospital and related campuses relative to the surveillance, prevention and control of nosocomial infections. Initiates appropriate infection prevention measures when indicated. Coordinates and directs nursing care and health education issues relative to infection control and prevention practices. Resolves infection issues and provides guidance for medical staff and hospital employees through a comprehensive program. Serves as an infection control consultant on related employee health issues and works closely with the Medical Staff. The IP's time is divided among surveillance, policy and procedure development, training, consulting, and investigating potential outbreaks. Additionally, the IP performs activities and reporting in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations.
Required Education:Graduate of accredited school of nursing with a BSN degree.
Preferred Education:
Certification in Infection Control or CIC eligible
Required Technical Skills:Microsoft Office Word & Excel experience, data entry in Infection Control surveillance software
Preferred Technical Skills:Meditech knowledge
Required Licensure /Registration /Certification:
Current Texas licensure as a RN
Preferred Licensure /Registration /Certification:CBIC Certification
Required Experience:Five years as a RN in a clinical setting. Experience with gathering hospital associated data, Institute of Healthcare Improvement projects, THA projects, application of CDC's operational definitions, Surgical Care Improvement Program (SCIP), mandatory reporting requirements, application of infection prevention requirements, leading meetings, computing infection control rates, external reporting of required data, internal reporting of data and experience in computer software infection control programs.
Preferred Experience:
Certified in infection control and two years with PRMC and at least five years in nursing or a related field. Two years in an acute health care setting and infection control. Two years experience in hospital epidemiology or an infection-related field.
