Position Summary

Reporting to the Reporting to the Manager of Infection Prevention and Control, the Infection Control Professional (ICP) will act as support with the ongoing implementation, development and evaluation of the infection prevention and control program for the Brant Community Healthcare System. Responsibilities will include surveillance activities, epidemiology investigation and trending, organizing outbreak management, acting as an expert consultant internally and externally, providing education to all levels of healthcare providers, preparing reports on possible causes and interventions, liaising with external agencies and academic institutions across the continuum of care and participating in research activities.

Education Requirements
  • Completion of a recognized basic training course in Infection Control
  • Certificates in Infection Control (CIC) by the Certification Board of Infection Control required
  • Minimum 3 years of previous experience working in infection prevention and control
  • Regulated Health Care Professional with current registration in the Province of Ontario with their professional body
  • Baccalaureate preferred

Mandatory Competencies
  • Ability to work weekend, evenings, and on-call shifts as required.
  • Effective leadership skills and superior interpersonal and communication skills
  • Skilled with computer databases as well as with MS Word, MS Excel and MS Power Point
  • Knowledge of current infection control guidelines and best practices
  • Demonstrates strong organizational, time-management and critical thinking abilities
  • Demonstrated the ability to work independently and is self-directed while possessing the ability to work in a collaborative manner
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations
  • Experience developing, implementing and evaluating educational programs
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and improvement
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrated interest in data collection and epidemiology
  • Creative problem solver with a solution focus and patient friendly approach
  • Demonstrates commitment to exceptional customer service with patients, families, staff, colleagues and community partners
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate the important components of an infection prevention and control program with all levels of staff and physicians and clients
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance record
  • Safety (patient, worker & workplace) is a BCHS Corporate Priority. The successful applicant will demonstrate good stewardship in the identification, reporting and mitigation of unsafe acts or conditions.

Preferred Competencies
  • Experience or familiarity with IPAC measures during construction, renovation and maintenance
  • Experience with infection prevention & control data management
  • Experience with epidemiology
