Job SummaryBASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITYAssist the surgical team in the performance of operating procedures and to select instruments and supplies for surgical procedures.
SUPERVISION RECEIVEDGeneral supervision is received from Nurse Manager or other designated official.

Responsibilities*- Assist the surgical team during operating procedures by passing instruments, sponges and sutures to surgeons and surgical assistants.
- Select and layout instruments for operating procedures.
- Prepare sterile supplies for operating procedures.
- Prepare surgical trays for operating procedures.
- Assist in the preparation of patients for surgery.
- Move patients after completion of surgery for transfer to Recovery area.
- Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications*Surgical Technologist Specialist Requirements:Graduation from high school or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Completion of an accredited or military Surgical Technologist program or a program pending immediate accreditation.
Certification from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
One year of Surgical Technologist Senior experience, in good standing, at the University of Michigan Health System.

Two years' experience as a Surgical Technologist.

Physical Requirements- This position requires moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.
Desired Qualifications*- Some experience as a Surgical Technologist.
