Rock Mechanics Engineer

The normal work schedule is on a rotation of 4 weeks paid i.e., 2 weeks worked (77 hours per week, 7 days a week) followed by 2 weeks paid to rest.

Future challenges

Reporting to the Chief Mining Engineer, the Rock Mechanics Engineer will collaborate with various departments at the mining site to provide technical support in rock mechanics for underground mines operations. The candidate will be responsible for field support and instrumentation tasks. They will ensure that departmental objectives are met while promoting health and safety in their activities. The candidate will also be expected to perform the following duties:
  • Apply and update the field control program;
  • Monitor instrumentation in the mines;
  • Conduct field control inspections in underground mines;
  • Manage communications with external rock mechanics consultants for ongoing and upcoming projects;
  • Prepare and update field support specifications;
  • Design rehabilitation plans and additional support to ensure the stability of excavations;
  • Maintain the field control register for each mine in the Nunavik Nickel project and ensure its follow-up;
  • Perform any other tasks deemed necessary by the supervisor.


What we are looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or Geological Engineering;
  • Member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec;
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience;
  • Experience in the production of magmatic deposits of nickel and copper is preferred;
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite and Deswik;
  • Hold a valid driver's license;
  • Hold a general explosives handling permit, as well as the FMTM modules (1-2-3-4-5 and 7);
  • Due to frequent communication with English-speaking team members, bilingualism (French/English) is an asset to facilitate and improve internal communications.
