Job Description

Vehicle OS Governance & Enablement team ensures our in-vehicle experiences are cohesive, scalable, and aligned to the gmUI Human Interface Guidelines across vehicle programs, model years, and generations. In this role, you will help translate experience principles, platform constraints, and product goals into clear, actionable standards that designers and partners can easily use. You will work across HID Vehicle Studio to drive consistency in patterns, behaviors, and interaction models. Your work will directly improve how teams navigate our design ecosystem and ship coherent experiences across the Vehicle OS.

What You’ll Do

  • Partner with designers, product managers, and engineers to define, document, and evolve UI standards, patterns, and usage guidance in GM human interface guidelines for Vehicle OS.
  • Conduct governance reviews and system level audits of in-flight work, identifying misalignments and turning them into clear, actionable guidance.
  • Help organize and maintain shared Figma libraries, templates, and file structures so teams can reliably find and apply approved patterns.
  • Translate complex decisions and trade-offs into concise, understandable documentation in tools.
  • Support and sometimes lead governance forums, capturing decisions and ensuring they are documented and discoverable.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, UX Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in UX, product, or interaction design working on complex digital products or platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience working with design systems, pattern libraries, or UX guidelines (contributing to, maintaining, or applying them at scale).
  • o Proficiency with Figma and common design or prototyping tools, including experience working with shared libraries and templates.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across disciplines (design, product, engineering) and to give and receive constructive critique in service of shared standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in design governance, design operations, or similar roles focused on standards, process, and enablement.
  • Experience with in-vehicle, embedded, or other safety-critical interfaces, or other multi-surface ecosystems.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and how to incorporate them into design guidelines and governance practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience writing clear, structured documentation for designers and cross-functional partners.
