Job Summary and ResponsibilitiesThe ICU/ED Manager has accountability for the patient care unit or service. The major responsibilities are in providing leadership and communication, monitoring the work environment, assuring quality, managing the fiscal budget, managing human resources and ensuring the delivery of competent clinical practice.
Leadership 1. Facilitates staff to assume leadership roles via role modeling. 2. Demonstrates positive leadership skills and communication which results in achievement of outcomes. 3. Articulates departmental goals and objectives which allows staff to actively participate in clinical decision-making. Work Environment 1. Facilitates the achievement of a high quality work environment. 2. Ensures that appropriate equipment and supplies are available. Quality 1. Participates in unit programs, documents results, reports by deadlines, and formulates corrective action plans for improvement. 2. Meets established research-based standards of care and Leads quality improvement projects. 3. Develops a multidisciplinary program to monitor quality care indicators. 4. Maintains a consistent score of good on selected department items on customer service survey. 5. Develops and reviews Departmental Policies and Procedures. 6. Participates in chart review audits. Fiscal Management 1. Maintains fiscal budget, overtime, orientation costs, SSP costs and medical supply costs. 2. Adjusts staffing patterns according to unit activity and patient acuity. 3. Analyzes budget variances 4. Develop and manage the unit budget 5. Identifies major hospital cost savings opportunities. 6. Identifies new revenue-producing opportunities. Human Resources 1. Supports Shared leadership. 2. Facilitates professional growth and development of staff 3. Demonstrates accountability for human and material resource management 4. Complies with personnel policies and procedures 5. Oversees orientation of all new employees. 6. Ensures that payroll is accurate and timely. Clinical and Professional Practice 1. Ensures effective delivery of competent, compassionate nursing care. 5. Develops clinical experts in the patient care areas.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree and Registered Nurse required
- Starting in January of 2016, any new hires should have: Bachelor's Degree and minimum of 3 years leadership experience or minimum of 5 years leadership experience in the discipline or Master's Degree and no experience
- Minimum three (3) years clinical leadership experience required
Where You’ll Work
St. Luke's Health - Patients Medical Center provides inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical services to residents of Pasadena, Deer Park, La Porte, Baytown, and Clear Lake. The facility includes 53 medical/surgical beds, eight ICU beds and three endoscopy rooms, and offers a range of primary and specialized services—wound care, general surgery, gastroenterology, occupational health, heart and vascular, women’s services, diagnostic imaging, outpatient rehab services, and sleep disorders.
