Your Opportunity

One Permanent Full Time Position.

Capital Power is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Technician II to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a steam and gas-fired cogeneration facility. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this role is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting plant controls, instrumentation, and computer-based systems that are critical to plant availability, efficiency, and reliability.

You will contribute to our team by:
  • Diagnose and resolve plant control and instrumentation issues that impact availability, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Monitor gas turbines start to ensure dispatch targets are met, initiate corrective actions, and document start failures.
  • Perform testing and commissioning activities during major outages, working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and contractors.
  • Develop procedures, test plans, and accept criteria for integrated plant systems and computerized control schemes.
  • Develop and implement control system programming and configuration changes.
  • Maintain cybersecurity for industrial control systems, including backups and patching of cyber assets.
  • Troubleshoot ICS cards, controllers, and network components; oversee ICS service contracts.
  • Support operator workstations, HMIs, DCS platforms, and plant networks (e.g., fiber and serial converters)
  • This role supports a diverse and technically complex facility, including:
    • Steam and gas turbines, HRSGs, duct burners, package boilers
    • Gas metering and regulation systems
    • Steam metering stations and auxiliary equipment
    • Black start diesel generator systems


What you will bring to the role:

Education:
  • Associate degree in a relevant technical discipline (preferred).


Experience:
  • Minimum 10 years of instrumentation experience, including 5 years in power plant process control.
  • Strong computer aptitude with the ability to learn and use plant-specific software and control systems.


Technical Skills:
  • Calibrate and simulate current, voltage, pressure, and temperature (RTDs and thermocouples).
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, schematics, and control documentation.
  • Perform control valve calibration and basic electrical troubleshooting.
  • Apply lockout/tagout procedures safely and effectively
  • Use DCS trending and diagnostics to support advanced troubleshooting.
  • Configure and communicate with PLCs, protection relays, and turbine control systems.
  • Support gas and steam turbine start-up routines and inspections.
  • Calibrate turbine systems including gas valves, EHC systems, thrust, and VIGVs.
  • Coordinate and lead major inspection activities, including C-inspections


Working Conditions:
  • Plant site based, frequent field visits.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be willing and able to work occasional 10-hour work days when required, as well as rotating on-call periods.
  • Walking, reaching, lifting, climbing etc. (Up to 50 pounds).
  • Work with hazardous materials occasionally.


Additional Details:

This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.

Wage: $47.00

Hours of Work: Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm
