About the Work Unit
This unit, Denver Metro North I-270 Project, exists to support the 270 Corridor Improvements Project during all design and construction phases. This is a multi-year project that is located on the highly visible I-270 Corridor and is on the Region's 10-year plan and is both a Regional and Statewide priority. This project is expected to be the largest project that the CDOT Region 1 North office has ever delivered.

About the Position
As the I-270 Design Manager (PE I), you will report to the I-270 Corridor Improvement Resident Engineer and provides design lead oversight in project level communications with the design and construction delivery team for I-270 Corridor Improvements Project preconstruction and construction activities. This position will manage the processes for development of engineering construction plans; ensure that all processes are in compliance with State and Federal standards; and, develop and manage the support processes from procurement through design construction support. This position requires the candidate to have a Professional Engineer's license to approve and stamp design plans.

Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following

• Utilize engineering knowledge and professional engineer license to apply current engineering principles and theories, design specifications, and federal, state, and local design standards to coordinate and supervise the preparation of plans, specifications, and estimate (PS&E) for multiple, concurrent plan packages for I-270 Corridor Improvements Project.
• Request field surveys, environmental studies, traffic data, right-of-way information, hydrology/hydrology design, structural design, utility locations/relocations, and other information as needed.
• Assist the blended project team during the environmental (NEPA) compliance monitoring and tracking by ensuring that designs comply with I-270 Corridor Improvements Record of Decision
• Develop and review moderate to complex designs and perform complex mathematical analysis relative to the development of interchange and intersection layouts, vertical and horizontal alignments, and miscellaneous detail plans using various computer programs and software as licensed engineer.
• Collaborate and confer with various disciplines to obtain final project clearances and concurrence for final design packages from all appropriate engineering and planning branches within CDOT, FHWA and city engineering offices.
• Plan the information, documentation and course of action needed to advance design for the project. This could include conceptual design reports, preliminary designs, drainage reports, final designs, environmental clearances and permits, an interchange access and management plan, utility company involvement, and special details related to the project.
• Utilize engineering knowledge and professional engineer license to advance I-270 community enhancement projects which are complimentary state commitments that extend beyond the mitigation measures included in the I-270 Corridor Improvements Record of Decision
• Plan the information, documentation and course of action needed to advance I-270 community enhancements through the four phases: Feasibility, Detailed Planning, Contracting, Implementation.
• Assist with the development of procurement documents for consultant engineering contracts, personal service contracts, and construction contracts that are needed to implement the community enhancements.
• Assist with the development of grant applications that may be needed to finance and implement community enhancements.
• Assist with the budget management and public reporting of the community enhancement program to ensure commitments made in CDOT's Community Analysis Report are met.
• Prepare information needed to ensure thorough coordination of community enhancement projects with the I-270 Corridor Improvement stakeholders which include residents, local agencies, and other organizations.
• Collaborate and confer with various disciplines to obtain clearances and concurrence of community enhancement projects from all appropriate engineering and planning branches within CDOT, FHWA and other applicable offices.
• Prepare written requests for land surveys, disadvantaged business enterprise participation goals, environmental investigations and permits, traffic engineering design, hydraulic engineering design, and project clearances.
• Use PEL/LAS as appropriate to provide correct pay items and other project budgetary information.
• Provide Design Support During Construction for I-270 Corridor Improvements Phases 1-3.
• A valid driver's license is required to operate a CDOT vehicle to perform some of these duties.

Work Environment

• Your schedule will primarily be 8:00 am - 5:00 pm work hours, Monday-Friday, but we are flexible to meet your work/life balance needs while ensuring CDOT business needs are met.
• Opportunity to work a hybrid schedule with a combination of in-office and remote work.
• Approximately 10% spent in the field, 90% spent in the office
• Travel required during work hours throughout the Denver Metro area
• Potential for night and weekend work depending on meetings and project details
• Occasional overnight travel 1-3 times a year throughout Colorado
• Required to operate CDOT vehicles
• May work in close proximity to high-speed traffic, in various weather conditions

• Current, valid licensure as a Professional Engineer from the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors.

• For the Engineer-in-Training III classification level, be within one year of obtaining Professional Engineer license;

• Knowledge of local issues and concerns in the program area;
