About this opportunity:The Upstream Development & Production team is seeking a
Hydrogeologist / Hydrogeological Engineer to join the CTCHO Geoscience Services team. Reporting to the Leader, Hydrogeological Engineering, you will provide technical expertise and solutions for groundwater source and disposal development, supporting Cenovus' thermal and conventional assets across Alberta and Saskatchewan.
What you'll do:- Support Cenovus' short and long-term development plans by ensuring sustainable groundwater source and disposal development:
- Delineate and map aquifers and aquitards
- Characterize groundwater flow systems
- Plan and execute groundwater exploration and aquifer testing programs
- Conduct cumulative effects and interference assessments
- Contribute to integrated water management planning
- Monitor, optimize, and sustain aquifer production, disposal performance, and containment:
- Develop and manage aquifer surveillance programs
- Analyze and interpret aquifer performance data
- Develop and maintain analytical tools and dashboards
- Apply groundwater modelling and forecasting to support decision-making
- Complete regulatory, compliance, and stakeholder reporting
- Identify water-related risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including Geology, Reservoir Engineering, Production Engineering, Process Engineering, and Development Engineering, to deliver integrated solutions.
- Evaluate emerging water regulations and participate in industry initiatives.
- Support regulatory applications and scheme amendments.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders on water-related matters.
Who you are:Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, Civil, Geological, or Environmental Engineering.
- P.Geo. (Hydrogeologist) or P.Eng. (Hydrogeological Engineer) designation with APEGA
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin.
- Strong technical expertise in hydrogeology and groundwater management, with knowledge of applicable regulations.
- Proven ability to evaluate complex technical challenges and develop risk-informed solutions.
- Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills across multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
