Hydrogeologist

Ottawa, ON

EXP is seeking an experienced Hydrogeologist to join our Environmental Group in Ottawa, Ontario. This role offers the opportunity to lead meaningful work on complex infrastructure and municipal projects, and we are looking for a motivated professional who is ready to contribute expertise, mentor others, and help drive the continued growth of our team.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

As a senior member of the groundwater team, you will provide technical, project, and client leadership across a broad range of assignments, including:
  • Partnering with clients to understand needs and deliver practical, value-driven solutions
  • Leading and shaping scopes of work for public and private clients on small- to large-scale infrastructure projects
  • Managing and executing hydrogeological studies, including:
    • Groundwater resource development
    • Construction dewatering programs
    • Pump test design, analysis, and interpretation
    • Geothermal system assessments
    • Sewer discharge agreements
    • Permit to Take Water (PTTW) applications
  • Project management and coordination of site investigation and compliance programs
  • Budget oversight, cost control, and invoicing
  • Coordinating and supervising field programs
  • Reviewing and guiding the technical work of junior and intermediate staff
  • Preparing and reviewing high-quality technical reports
  • Supporting proposal development and contributing to business growth


What your experience looks like
  • University degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, or a related discipline
    (Master's degree is an asset)
  • 10+ years of experience in physical hydrogeology
  • Strong field-based experience in groundwater supply, hydrogeological investigations, and assessments
  • Professional designation in Ontario (P.Geo. or P.Eng.) preferred
  • Experience with ESA, excess soil or geo would be considered assets as well as having an ability to speak French.
  • Experience with groundwater modelling is an asset
  • Proven success developing client relationships and contributing to winning proposals
  • Hands-on experience working with MECP, municipalities, and Conservation Authorities
  • Ability to manage multidisciplinary projects from planning through delivery
  • Strong business acumen and a practical, solution-focused mindset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and developing junior staff
  • Comfortable operating in a high-demand, fast-paced environment

The base salary range for this role is between $92,043 to $122,010. The actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location.
