Full Job Description
HVM Senior Field Process Engineer - tALD, PEALD, LPCVD
As part of the Global Sales and Services business unit, our Field Process Engineering team consists of on-site process application experts focused on improving process performance and stability on ASM toolsets at customer locations.
In this role, you will support Thermal Atomic Layer Deposition (tALD), Plasma-Enhanced Atomic Layer Deposition (PEALD), or Low-Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition (LPCVD) on ASM's XP8 DCM/QCM or Sonora platforms. You will optimize deposition processes, resolve technical issues, and ensure tool performance meets customer and ASM requirements. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy hands-on problem-solving, fast-paced environments, and contributing to next-generation semiconductor manufacturing.
The Field Process Engineer serves as a key technical interface with the customer and must demonstrate accountability, professionalism, and clear communication. Engineers in this role often transition into technical leadership, customer strategy, or product development roles. You'll collaborate with ASM's global innovation teams and have access to advanced R&D resources.
What you'll be working on
Lead on-site process qualification and optimization during tool installations and ramp-up.
Track and verify compliance with customer specifications throughout installation, ramp-up, and warranty phases.
Design and execute experiments to improve film quality, uniformity, and throughput.
Troubleshoot process issues using a systematic root cause analysis. Drive containment, short-term mitigation, and long-term corrective actions to resolve issues and restore process performance.
Partner with customer teams and internal ASM teams to drive continuous improvement and tool-to-tool matching.
Develop and maintain relevant technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders. Share lessons learned across the key account organization and the Global Sales and Services business unit.
Customer Engagement
Serve as the primary technical interface among customer process teams, hardware teams, and ASM account teams.
Anticipate customer needs and provide sustainable, long-term solutions.
Support escalations with clear communication, action plans, and disciplined follow-through.
Represent ASM with professionalism and technical credibility.
What we are looking for
Master's degree or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience with tALD, PEALD, or LPCVD processes, vacuum systems, metrology, and semiconductor manufacturing.
High-volume manufacturing (HVM) experience is preferred, including familiarity with ASM platforms and demonstrated success optimizing deposition processes in development or manufacturing environments.
Strong design of experiments (DOE) and experimental analysis skills.
Ability to travel up to 25%, including occasional extended travel for training, technical engagements, and support at other customer sites.
During escalations, additional hours and weekend work may be required.
Strong understanding of intellectual property (IP) boundaries and confidentiality requirements.
What sets you apart
Clear communication skills, a strong troubleshooting methodology, and the ability to remain composed under pressure.
A collaborative, organized, and proactive approach to solving issues and driving improvements.
A strong sense of ownership, accountability, and empathy for customer challenges.
The ability to adapt to changing priorities in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
