Role Overview

Under general direction, this role manages a truck-based service business and supports growth in labor and material revenue, gross margin, and service asset management. You will deploy standardized tools, systems, and support for the Service Team, maximize customer satisfaction, and improve productivity and profitability. Success in this role comes from strong leadership, effective employee development, disciplined service execution, and a clear focus on safety and customer outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the truck-based service business to grow labor and material revenue, gross margin, and service asset performance.
  • Set, track, and achieve goals for team growth, productivity, quality, and profitability.
  • Lead the Service Team to ensure consistent service delivery and strong customer experience.
  • Support warranty-related issue closure and drive effective issue resolution with customers.
  • Maintain customer relationships and identify opportunities for additional work, including change orders.
  • Support monthly forecasting and manage overhead accounts with accuracy and accountability.
  • Plan labor needs, maintain optimal staffing levels, and recruit, hire, develop, and retain team members.
  • Partner with direct reports and Team Technical Leads on development plans, performance expectations, and performance reviews.
  • Approve timesheets and ensure pre-job checklists, daily debriefing, and monthly Near Misses are completed on time.
  • Manage bookings, Accounts Payables, Accounts Receivable, and other operational tasks tied to service performance.
  • Take responsibility for safety performance and program compliance.
  • Build long-term relationships with contractors, clients, consultants, and subcontractors.

  • Stay close to the work by understanding service team priorities, removing obstacles quickly, and supporting technicians and leaders with practical guidance.
  • Improve every day through disciplined forecasting, clear performance reviews, timely issue resolution, and consistent use of tools and standards that strengthen results.
  • Win as one team by collaborating with internal partners, technical leads, customers, and subcontractors to deliver dependable service and build trust.
  • Use labor planning and staffing reviews to match resources to demand and protect customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate expectations clearly, provide coaching, and create development plans that help team members grow and perform.
  • Monitor service activity, financial results, and administrative follow-through so issues are identified early and resolved efficiently.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by reinforcing required processes, documentation, and compliance expectations.
Qualifications
  • College degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the HVAC field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities with tact, cooperation, persistence, and sound judgment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to adapt as priorities and objectives change.
  • Comfort working independently and as part of a team while taking ownership of issues and resolutions.
  • Strong computer skills in a Microsoft Office environment.
  • Experience using service management software and financial accounting systems.
  • Ability to positively represent Johnson Controls and communicate effectively with people at different technical levels.
Nice to Have
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field.
  • 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • 1-2 years of related site coordination and project management experience.
  • 5 years of field experience in HVAC and/or building controls systems, including knowledge of digital HVAC controls.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills in a service leadership environment.
