Responsibilities

  • Inspect and test HVAC systems to verify functionality.
  • Repair and replace defective equipment and components.
  • Conduct maintenance inspections to prevent breakdowns.
  • Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting on commercial HVAC equipment.
  • Conduct warranty analysis by inspecting and testing systems.
  • Educate customers on equipment use and maintenance.
  • Lead the rebuild and retrofit processes for HVAC units and guide apprentices.
  • Document and report billing, inventory, and work records in a timely manner.
  • Download and analyze data from HVAC equipment for optimal performance.
  • Participate in ongoing training and skill development.
  • Uphold cleanliness and safety standards at job sites.
  • Perform jobsite hazard assessments prior to service.

Full Job Description
Daikin Applied is seeking a full-time HVAC Journeyman. You'll have the opportunity to work on all types of commercial and industrial equipment and cutting-edge technologies. Receive comprehensive training through in-person, online, and on-the-job programs. The equipment you'll service includes, but is not limited to, large and small rooftop units, mini-split systems, chillers, and boilers. Location: Long Island City / NYC

Your Responsibilities:
  • Perform service of equipment including inspecting and testing systems to verify functionality including but not limited to chillers, fan coils, water source heat pumps, applied air handling units, rooftop units, cooling towers, and condenser tubes
  • Repair and replace defective equipment, components, or wiring
  • Maintain and inspect equipment to identify potential problems to prevent premature and unexpected breakdowns or callbacks
  • Perform intermediate and advanced independent diagnostics, troubleshooting, pipefitting, and brazing of commercial HVAC equipment
  • Conduct warranty service application by independently inspecting and testing systems to verify functionality of all commercial HVAC equipment
  • Educate technical and non-technical customers on proper use of equipment, maintenance schedule, and operating manual usage
  • Lead and participate in the rebuild and retrofit of commercial HVAC level units including the direction of apprentice level technicians through hands-on demonstration of the necessary steps
  • Record and report billing, inventory, timecards, technician tip reports, and other articles as required and in a timely manner
  • Download programs into commercial HVAC equipment and Micro controllers and analyze chiller trend data to ensure optimal performance
  • Participate in available training through regional technician trainers, and off-site learning modules
  • Maintain all required certifications and continue to develop new skill sets
  • Ensure standards, policies, procedures, and maintenance of a clean work area are always upheld
  • Complete jobsite hazard assessment prior to initiating service and adhere to Daikin Applied and customer safety policies and OSHA guidelines


Your Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associates Degree or technical school HVAC certification (preferred)
  • 5+ years of related experience with increasing responsibility or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Accepted as Journeyman by the union
  • Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record
  • Required license(s) and/or training card as required by local law district
  • Rotational Emergency Call Support availability as required
  • Previous experience in mentoring less experienced technicians
  • EPA approved Universal Technician Certification (preferred)
  • OSHA 10 certification (preferred)
  • Current first aid / CPR card (preferred)


Work visa sponsorship is not available for this position

The expected hourly rate for this position is $62 in NY. The rate is subject to the amount outlined in the CBA and could change based on the level offered. Benefits are provided through a local labor union and aligned to the CBA.
