Johnson Controls is a global leader in smart, healthy, and sustainable buildings. In this role, you will provide technical leadership and people leadership for a team of Controls Systems Technicians while supporting the successful delivery of building automation and controls projects.


What you will do

As an HVAC Controls Systems Team Lead, you will guide daily field activities, support project execution, and help develop the capabilities of your team. You will work closely with customers, project managers, subcontractors, and other internal partners to ensure controls installation, commissioning, service, and project delivery activities are completed safely, efficiently, and to the required standard.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of 3 to 6 Controls Systems Technicians in direct field work across installation, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, validation, and service activities.

  • Assign, prioritize, and monitor work to support project schedules, service commitments, and operational objectives.

  • Provide coaching, feedback, and development support to help technicians grow their technical and customer service skills.

  • Support the diagnosis and resolution of complex issues involving controls hardware, software, networks, and system integration.

  • Coordinate field execution with project managers, customers, subcontractors, and other trades to support successful delivery.

  • Review project requirements and provide technical direction so systems are installed and operating in accordance with design intent.

  • Participate in project planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and field execution activities.

  • Support Operations & Maintenance (O&M) activities and ongoing customer site requirements as needed.

  • Maintain clear communication with customers regarding project status, system performance, and issue resolution.

  • Complete project documentation, commissioning reports, service records, and other required deliverables accurately and on time.

  • Promote a strong safety culture and support compliance with Johnson Controls and customer safety requirements.

What we Look for
  • University degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, HVAC, Electrical, Mechanical, Building Automation, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in HVAC controls, building automation systems, controls installation, commissioning, service, or project delivery.

  • Demonstrated experience leading field activities and coordinating technical work in a customer-facing environment.

  • Working knowledge of building automation systems, HVAC controls, system commissioning, and controls troubleshooting.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and team leadership skills.

  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and controls-related software tools.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer sites as required.

Nice to Have
  • Previous experience leading, coaching, mentoring, or supervising technical field personnel.

  • Knowledge of control theory, HVAC equipment, networking, and building systems integration.

  • Experience supporting Operations & Maintenance (O&M) contracts and service delivery activities.

  • Familiarity with industry communication protocols such as SQL and Microsoft Visio.

  • Experience with Johnson Controls Metasys building automation systems.

  • Experience with system startups, commissioning, diagnostics, and customer training.

  • Knowledge of project scheduling, workforce planning, and resource management principles.

  • Strong customer relationship management and problem-solving skills.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $ $89,000 - $134,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This role offers a competitive Bonus plan that will take into account individual, group, and corporate performance.  This position includes a competitive benefits package.
