Full Job Description
The Operations Manager leads the day-to-day execution of complex mechanical and controls projects within laboratory, healthcare, and other critical spaces. Combining technical expertise with leadership responsibility, this role is responsible for overseeing technicians, ensuring quality installations, and maintaining operational excellence across all project phases.

What you'll do:

Project Execution and Technical Oversight (70%)
  • Oversee and participate in the installation, commissioning, and verification of HVAC and control systems in critical environments.
  • Support estimating, pre-construction planning, scheduling, and customer coordination.
  • Assign and manage field work to ensure projects follow scope, design intent, specifications, and budget.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues involving mechanical and control system performance.
  • Conduct and validate functional testing of control systems and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation including schedules, field reports, commissioning logs, and closeout materials.
  • Coordinate project turnover deliverables including graphics, startup documentation, punch lists, O&M manuals, and as-builts.
  • Conduct owner training and coordinate warranty follow-up with the service department.
  • Collaborate with sales, engineering, and operations to identify and resolve field discrepancies efficiently.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and training programs across Envelop Critical Environments and partner companies.

Field Leadership and Team Development (30%)
  • Lead and mentor field technicians, providing technical direction and performance feedback.
  • Train team members on standards, safety procedures, and commissioning practices.
  • Oversee technician scheduling, dispatching, and workload balancing to ensure resource efficiency.
  • Verify the accuracy and completeness of technician documentation for commissioning and closeout.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluation processes in collaboration with department leadership.
  • Reinforce adherence to company policies, safety standards, and best practices.
  • Participate in leadership development and cross-functional coordination to improve field operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required skills, knowledge, and experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical degree in mechanical, electrical, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in HVAC controls installation, commissioning, and field service; 1+ years in a leadership or management role.
  • Proven technical expertise with systems such as Critical Room Control, VFDs, and DDC platforms (Niagara Tridium, JCI, Siemens, Delta, Distech).
  • Knowledge of Phoenix Controls, Aircuity, Strobic, and HEPA filtration systems; NEBB, CETA, or NSF certification preferred.
  • Experience interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple concurrent projects in fast-paced environments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by example, work hands-on in the field, and foster team growth.

Physical Demands:
  • This position requires a combination of working in an office environment and routine visits to jobsites.
  • Ability to work in a variety of circumstances, including but not limited to standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing ladders, scaffolds, and high-lift equipment; working in ducts, crawl spaces, roofs, basements, above ceilings, and in outside/inside/heat/cold/day/night conditions.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to satisfy requirements imposed by specific projects, customers, or company.
  • Must be able to use hand tools, laptop, email, smartphone, and tablet.
  • Must be able to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
