HVAC Technician - Commercial Chiller & Controls SpecialistPosition OverviewKelso Industries is hiring a skilled Commercial HVAC Technician with a strong background in heavy chiller equipment and building automation systems. This position covers advanced diagnostics, repair, preventative maintenance, and efficiency optimization on commercial and industrial equipment. We need someone with strong technical instincts, a safety-first approach, and a consistent record of quality workmanship.
Responsibilities- Troubleshoot and repair large-tonnage chillers, both air-cooled and water-cooled, across centrifugal, screw, and scroll designs
- Work at an advanced level programming and troubleshooting DDC/BAS building control systems
- Start up and commission chillers and control systems, dialing in settings for optimal efficiency
- Resolve issues that span electrical, mechanical, and controls systems
- Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance on chillers, cooling towers, pumps, boilers, and related equipment
- Read and apply blueprints, wiring diagrams, and controls schematics on the job
- Document all service calls, repairs, and recommendations accurately and on time
- Explain system conditions and next steps to customers in clear, straightforward terms
- Comply with all safety standards, EPA regulations, and company policy
- Mentor apprentices and junior technicians as needed
What We're Looking ForRequired
- Active TDLR HVAC Journeyman License (Texas)
- EPA 608 Universal Certification
- 5+ years of commercial HVAC experience, with meaningful time spent on heavy chiller systems
- Hands-on experience with BAS/DDC controls platforms
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, low and high voltage alike
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Valid Texas driver's license in good standing
- Able to lift 50 lbs and work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and confined spaces
Preferred
- Factory training or certifications from major chiller manufacturers
- Background in controls programming or system commissioning
- Experience servicing hospitals, industrial plants, or large commercial buildings
