Job Duties

This is a restricted position, which is solely funded by the CDC- Pregnant People Infant Link Longitudinal Surveillance. The availability of funding is scheduled for review annually and periodically thereafter. Continued employment is contingent on the continued availability of funds.

The Clinical Consultant Specialist will provide expert guidance, support, and educational resources to families of children diagnosed with congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV). This role is central to the PPILLS grant's objectives of improving family-centered care, conducting targeted surveys, and collecting data to inform programmatic strategies. The Specialist will work collaboratively with clinical teams, public health personnel, and research staff to ensure families receive comprehensive support and accurate information regarding cCMV management, developmental monitoring, and available interventions.

Provide individualized clinical support and guidance to families of children diagnosed with cCMV.

Assist families in navigating medical, developmental, and social service systems.

Monitor and follow up on children's care plans, referrals, and interventions.

Design, administer, and manage surveys for families to capture experiences, outcomes, and service utilization.

Ensure surveys are conducted ethically, confidentially, and according to research protocols.

Track survey completion and follow up with families as needed.

Partners with physicians, audiologists, social workers, and other providers supporting cCMV-affected families.

Coordinate care and share information to ensure continuity and quality of services.

Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, and early intervention programs.

Access, review, and extract relevant clinical data from medical records to support follow-up and program reporting.

Maintain accurate documentation of interventions, referrals, and family contacts.

Track each child's ongoing care and follow up on missed appointments, developmental screenings, and therapy referrals.

Identify barriers to care and develop strategies to overcome them.

Provide families with educational materials and resources regarding cCMV, treatment options, and early intervention strategies.

Train and consult with clinical staff and stakeholders on best practices for family-centered cCMV care.

Assist in collecting, organizing, and analyzing program data to meet grant reporting requirements.

Participate in team meetings to discuss outcomes, share insights, and improve program processes.

Stay current on cCMV research, early intervention strategies, and best practices in family-centered care.

Recommend and implement quality improvement initiatives based on family feedback and program data.

Minimum Qualifications
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
• Ability to apply pediatric clinical knowledge to evaluate and interpret medical records for completeness and accuracy.
• Excellent organization & presentation skills; strong networking abilities & communication skills
• Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic procedures, treatment protocols, and clinical documentation standards relevant to pediatric populations.
• Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems, medical record abstraction processes, and healthcare data collection guidelines.
• Comprehensive knowledge of pediatric nursing principles, including growth and development, common pediatric conditions such as cCMV and hearing loss
• Skilled in accurately reviewing, interpreting, and abstracting clinical data from medical records with strong attention to detail.
• Licensed Registered Nurse with clinical experience in pediatric nursing (e.g., hospital, clinic, or public health setting).

Additional Considerations
• Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements, including HIPAA and quality assurance standards for medical data handling
• Travel may be required
• Time management and organizational skills to handle multiple case follow-ups and meet deadlines.
