Full Job Description
The Human Resources Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day employment compliance and employee relations, serving as the primary HR resource for employees and managers across the organization. This role is focused on maintaining current policies, accurate employee records, sound employment practices, and effective resolution of employee relations matters.

The Human Resources Manager works closely with Accounting, Safety, Recruiting, Business Unit Managers, and outside employment counsel to provide guidance, address issues, and ensure consistent and compliant HR practices throughout the organization. This role offers meaningful ownership and exposure for an experienced HR professional ready to serve as the go-to resource for the organization. This position is remote, with approximately 15-20% travel to our various offices and jobsites, primarily our Westmont, IL office.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain the employee handbook, state-specific supplements, and HR policy library, and update them as laws change.
  • Track federal and multi-state employment law developments - FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, USERRA, IRCA, state wage-and-hour, leave, and pay transparency rules - and flag what needs to change.
  • Manage I-9 and E-Verify compliance, including internal audits and correction protocols.
  • Manage work visa applications and compliance for foreign employees.
  • Prepare and file required reports: EEO-1, VETS-4212, and coordinate OSHA 300 recordkeeping with Safety.
  • Conduct employee training for harassment prevention, supervisor human relations, and ethics.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for employee complaints and concerns.
  • Conduct and document routine workplace investigations, escalating complex or high exposure matters to the CEO and outside counsel.
  • Advise supervisors and managers on discipline, performance management, accommodation questions, and terminations.
  • Prepare documentation and background for agency responses (EEOC, state agencies, DOL) under the direction of counsel.
  • Own HR recordkeeping, personnel files, and data integrity.
  • Coordinate FMLA and ADA accommodation processes, working with Accounting and Safety on leave mechanics and with Risk on workers' compensation and return-to-work.
  • Support onboarding and offboarding compliance steps in partnership with Recruiting, Accounting, and Business Unit Managers.
  • Administrative roles as needed such as subcontract drafting and insurance certificate compliance.
  • Please note that benefits administration, recruiting, and training and development are not in the scope of this role.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of HR experience with meaningful exposure to employment compliance and employee relations.
  • Solid working knowledge of federal employment law and a willingness to get up to speed quickly on the states where we operate.
  • Experience taking employee complaints and participating in or conducting investigations.
  • Strong writing and documentation habits - much of this job is creating a record that holds up later.
  • Self-direction and responsiveness in a remote role, and the confidence to say "let me check on that" rather than guess.
  • Discretion with sensitive information.
  • Willingness to travel to headquarters, offices, and job sites as needed.
  • Experience in construction, industrial services, manufacturing, or another field-based workforce preferred.
  • Exposure to multi-state employment issues, union environments, and government contracting preferred.
  • SHRM-CP or PHR (or working toward it - we'll support the certification) preferred.

Salary & Benefits:

Range: $70,000-$100,000 annually.
