POSITION SUMMARY:The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Human Resources department across a broad range of HR functions, including recruitment and onboarding, employee relations, compliance, HRIS administration, leaves of absence, benefits support, training, performance management, and employee engagement.
This role serves as a key partner to leadership and employees by ensuring HR practices are compliant, efficient, employee-centered, and aligned with organizational goals. The ideal candidate is a well-rounded HR professional who can balance operational responsibilities with employee support and strategic initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Human Resources Operations:- Support the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources department.
- Serve as a resource to employees and managers regarding HR policies, procedures, and employment-related matters.
- Assist with employee relations matters, including investigations, coaching, corrective action, conflict resolution, and documentation.
- Support performance management processes, employee engagement initiatives, and retention efforts.
- Assist with leave administration, including FMLA/CFRA, ADA accommodations, workers' compensation, and other protected leaves.
- Conduct exit interviews and support separation processes.
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding:- Partner with department leaders to identify staffing needs and support workforce planning efforts.
- Manage full-cycle recruitment activities including job postings, sourcing, screening, interviewing coordination, and hiring.
- Utilize ADP, job boards, social media platforms, schools, and community partnerships to attract qualified candidates.
- Coordinate and facilitate onboarding processes to ensure a positive new hire experience.
- Ensure all pre-employment requirements are completed, including background checks, reference checks, physicals, licensing verification, and onboarding documentation.
- Participate in job fairs, recruiting events, and community outreach efforts as needed.
HRIS & Records Management:- Maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation in compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
- Process employee changes within HRIS systems including hires, transfers, status changes, and separations.
- Generate HR reports, analytics, and tracking tools related to staffing, turnover, compliance, and employee data.
- Maintain audit-ready personnel, medical, and confidential files.
- Assist with HR audits, reporting requirements, and document retention practices.
Compliance & Employee Support:- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including California labor laws.
- Assist with OSHA logs, workers' compensation reporting, unemployment claims, and other compliance-related documentation.
- Support I-9 and employment eligibility verification processes, including E-Verify compliance when applicable.
- Assist with policy updates, SOP development, employee communications, and HR process improvements.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive employee information.
Training & Organizational Support:- Assist with employee training, orientation programs, and HR-related educational initiatives.
- Support organizational initiatives that promote employee engagement, communication, and workplace culture.
- Provide administrative and operational support to the Director of Human Resources.
- Serve as a backup resource for various HR functions as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressive Human Resources experience required.
- Experience in recruitment, employee relations, union environment, HR compliance, and HR operations preferred.
- Working knowledge of California employment laws and HR best practices strongly preferred.
- Experience with ADP or other HRIS/payroll systems preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- SHRM-CP, PHR, or other HR certification preferred.
- Valid California driver's license preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use office equipment for extended periods.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to travel locally for recruiting events, meetings, or business needs as required.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced office environment and manage multiple priorities.
