Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:

The Human Resources Director (HRD) role provides comprehensive Human Resources (HR) expertise in areas such as employee/labor relations, staffing, compensation and benefits, and strategic planning to MPC's Canton, OH Refinery.

The HRD participates in business planning along with making strategic decisions and with strategy development for direction of the site as a member of the site leadership team. This role provides management and leadership support over the HR department to improve overall site performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides strategic business partnering to business unit leaders to support business objectives, including direction and counsel on employee relations and development, organizational development, workforce and succession planning, inclusion & opportunity (I&O), performance management, and other HR policies and programs.
  • Partners with HR Centers of Excellence (CoE) to implement HR programs in support of business objectives. Oversees delivery of human resources initiatives and programs (salary allocation and other compensation programs, performance management, leadership and career development, succession planning, I&O, and benefit plans).
  • Provides guidance and counsel to individual HR team on significant matters related to the application of programs, policies, and processes.
  • Engages with teams and employees across the organization to build trust, understand concerns and opportunities, and drive continuous improvement on employee relations so that MPC will continue to be the employer of choice.
  • Provides strategic partnering and counsel to business leaders and the HR team on labor initiatives.
  • Performs labor relations activities for the refinery, including negotiations, contract administration, arbitrations, and other union related business.
  • Aligns HR team's goals to MPC People Strategy and ensures that team activities also support client business unit objectives.
  • Leads the administration of established compensation programs and policies such as salary administration, bonus plans, and employee recognition awards.
  • Develops and reviews HR budget; initiates actions to ensure that budget expectations are met; reviews operating data and makes decisions on recommendations from staff and operating departments.
  • Serves as Public Information Officer of the refinery Incident Management Team as the on-site communications lead and liaisons with the corporate communications team for external communications.
  • Builds relationships with community stakeholders and collaborates with Government Affairs and Community Relations on local initiatives.
  • Serves as a member of the site Local Giving Committee.
  • Participates in quarterly Community Advisory Panel (CAP) meetings.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree required. Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Labor & Industrial relations or related field.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of broad HR experience required. Supervisory experience highly preferred.
  • Prior experience in petroleum, utilities, manufacturing or related field is preferred.

  • Knowledge and understanding of business, HR processes, and organizational processes; with the ability to think strategically and analytically
  • Ability to develop and support a team
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively
  • Result orientated with an ability to work both independently and collaboratively to meet organization needs and goals
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and limited information and engaging clients to reach clarity
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and organization needs simultaneously and work effectively in a fast-paced, high-output environment
  • Adapts seamlessly to changing priorities and deadlines
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build good working relationships with internal clients and external partners
  • High curiosity; eager to learn and understand a wide range of energy industry, business, and creative subject matter
  • Advanced experience with relationship management (building healthy working relations and partnerships with all levels of employees)
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications to include Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Attention-to-detail, analytical and team oriented.

TRAVEL:
  • Travel is required throughout the year to meet with clients and other key stakeholders, travel can increase throughout the year as business needs required.
