HSE Manager

HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) Manager for industrial construction oversees safety compliance, risk mitigation, and environmental protection on high hazard job sites like manufacturing plants, energy facilities, civil construction or heavy infrastructure projects.

***This position is based out of our Fort Saskatchewan Office***

Key Information:
  • Hours: The typical hours are 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM but is dependent on project needs.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends when required.
  • Salary is dependent on experience.

Job Description:
  • Ensure adherence to OHSE standards, EPA guidelines, and local statutory requirements.
  • Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), safety audits, and daily site inspections for high-risk tasks like working at heights or heavy lifts.
  • Lead accident, injury, and near-miss investigations; file mandatory reports and implement corrective actions.
  • Deliver safety orientations, toolbox talks, and specialized training for employees and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate response procedures for fires, chemical spills, or site evacuations.
  • Participate in weekly safety meetings.
  • Review workers FLHA's.
  • Gather all daily safety documents and scan into job folders.
  • Support all field safety documentation.
  • Tracking project site safety stats.

Experience and Certification Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years working as a hands-on Safety Manager or equivalent is required.
  • Civil, Industrial and Commercial Building construction experience is considered and asset.
  • Sub-contractor management experience is considered an asset.
  • Investigation training with root cause analysis experience.
  • Valid CSTS (Construction Safety Training Systems) certification.
  • NCSO certificate.
  • Travel is required - a valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract is required and must be obtained no more than 30 days prior to employment start date.
  • Must possess current WHMIS 2015 and CSTS.
  • Standard First Aid, Ground Disturbance, Confined Space Entry, and Fall Protection training are considered an asset.
  • Extremely proficient administrative skills and a highly professional demeanor required.
  • Attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Proficient and competent in the operation of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • A successful pre-access drug and alcohol test may be required depending on the project.
  • A reliable means of transportation is required.
  • Proficient English language skills required.

Education: NCSO Certificate is required.
