HSE Advisor - Pipeline Construction

Play an integral role in supporting the safe execution of a major pipeline construction project in remote Alaska. This rotational position is responsible for promoting and maintaining a strong Health, Safety, and Environmental culture across construction activities while partnering closely with project leadership, field supervision, contractors, and craft personnel.

You will join a collaborative project team focused on delivering critical infrastructure in a challenging and dynamic environment where safety leadership, sound judgment, and proactive engagement are essential to project success.

Purpose of the role

You will be responsible for supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of the project Health, Safety, and Environmental program across pipeline construction operations in Alaska. The role partners directly with Project Managers, Construction Managers, supervisors, contractors, and field personnel to identify risks, eliminate hazards, and ensure safe work practices are consistently maintained throughout all phases of construction.

The HSE Advisor provides practical field-based guidance and technical support related to health, safety, and environmental compliance while helping foster a culture of accountability, operational discipline, and continuous improvement. This position reports operationally to the Project or Construction Manager on all HSE program and operational matters.

Core Responsibilities

You will:
  • Support the implementation and execution of project-specific HSE programs, procedures, and initiatives across pipeline construction activities
  • Provide visible field leadership and proactively engage with supervisors, contractors, and craft personnel to promote safe work behaviors and environmental stewardship
  • Conduct field inspections, audits, observations, and risk assessments to identify hazards and verify compliance with company, client, and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in incident reporting, investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action development
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure alignment with HSE standards, safe work practices, and permit requirements
  • Assist project leadership in developing mitigation strategies for high-risk construction activities and remote worksite challenges
  • Facilitate and support toolbox talks, safety meetings, orientations, and ongoing HSE communications
  • Maintain accurate documentation, reporting, and project HSE records
  • Support emergency response preparedness and contribute to site readiness planning
  • Assist with environmental compliance activities and promote responsible environmental practices across the project
  • Provide technical guidance and support to project teams regarding HSE systems, processes, and field procedures
  • Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors, and client representatives to drive positive HSE outcomes
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen project safety performance and operational effectiveness

Key qualifications and capabilities include:
  • University degree, technical diploma, or equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience in Health & Safety, Environmental Sciences, Construction Management, or a related discipline
  • Typically 5+ years of relevant HSE experience supporting pipeline, oil & gas, heavy civil, industrial, or large-scale construction projects
  • Previous experience supporting remote or rotational construction projects is highly valued
  • Strong understanding of construction safety principles, hazard identification, risk mitigation, and incident prevention practices
  • Working knowledge of applicable HSE regulations, industry standards, and safe work practices related to pipeline construction and field operations
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities in a dynamic field environment
  • Experience participating in incident investigations, corrective action tracking, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Strong observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and recommend practical solutions
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and credibility across all levels of the organization
  • Ability to influence participation and engagement in HSE programs and initiatives through collaboration and professional leadership
  • Strong understanding of HSE systems, processes, and field reporting tools
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital reporting platforms commonly used within construction environments
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, environmental conditions, and operational demands associated with remote Alaska construction work
  • Current certifications such as OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, H2S, CSTS, or equivalent industry-recognized safety certifications are considered an asset
