Summary

As a strategic partner, the Human Resource Strategic Partner (HRSP) aligns business objectives with employees and management in designated business units. The HRSP serves in a strategic consultant role to management on The Centers of Expertise. Acts as the sponsor, and when appropriate, involves self in the development, implementation and measurement of Human Strategies aligned with the client group's strategic direction. Successful HRSP will act as employee champion and change agent, coach and internal consultant. HRSP assesses and anticipates Humand Resource (HR)-related needs. Communicating needs proactively with our HR department and business management, the HRSP seeks to develop integrated solutions. The HRSP formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value added service to management and employees that reflect the business objectives of the organization.

Responsibilities

(30%)* Demonstrates a thorough understanding of business strategies, competitive threats, and current, anticipated and potential future business challenges; collaboratively creates solutions from a holistic Human Resource (HR) systems and process thinking perspective within a relevant business context. Conduct regular meetings with respective business units.

(30%)* Provide guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning/selection, succession planning, strategic compensation, retention and incentive plans, organizational, departmental, team and individual development needs. Consults with line management providing HR guidance when appropriate.

(20%)* Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues. Interacts with the customer (employees and leaders), resolves escalated cases through research, policy interpretation, interview and investigations. Uses appropriate interpersonal communication methods to inspire commitment, encourage involvement, and guide individuals toward organization, departmental, and individual goal achievement.

(20%)* Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions). Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Facilitates communication and reporting for staff innovations.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works with management and employees as appropriate to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity and retention.

Communicates and supports organizational change and transitions.

Work closely with operational leaders.

Uses system reports to verify data is entered timely and accurately.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:

A minimum of 5+ years of the resolution of complex employee relation issues.

Effective leadership skills that can energize multi-disciplined work teams to respond to business needs; strong analytical, problem-solving, project management, consulting and conceptual skills.

Experience in organizing, planning and executing large-scale projects from the envisioning stage through to implementation, involving internal and external personnel; demonstrating strong teamwork, interpersonal and negotiation skills.

Excellent client management, business acumen and human resources management skills.

Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines including compensation practices, organizational development, employee and labor relations, diversity, performance management, federal and state respective employment laws.

Must consistently demonstrate emotional intelligence competency.

Demonstrate flexibility and available to interact with employees at all levels.

Be able to manage multiple conflicting priorities and multiple business units in multiple locations.

Should be self-directed and motivated.

Ability to flexibly move from strategic to tactical thinking and implement appropriate actions.

Active listening, interpersonal communications and PC based word processing required.

Skilled in verbal and written communication skills including facilitation, delivering presentations and providing targeted training.

Three to five years of management experience preferred.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.

Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.

Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Physical Demand Level: Light. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls.
