The Hospitalist Medical Director / Physician Advisor provides clinical, operational, and strategic leadership for the hospitalist program while serving as a physician resource for clinical documentation integrity, utilization management, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives. This position ensures delivery of high-quality, evidence-based patient care, promotes physician accountability, supports hospital operations and patient throughput, and serves as a liaison between hospital administration, medical staff, and the hospitalist team. The Medical Director develops and oversees clinical programs, monitors physician performance, advances quality and patient safety initiatives, promotes accurate and compliant documentation, and supports organizational goals related to patient outcomes, physician engagement, regulatory compliance, and financial stewardship. The role also serves as a physician advisor regarding medical necessity, utilization review, clinical documentation improvement (CDI), DRG optimization, and regulatory requirements. The PA acts as consultant to and as a resource for attending physicians regarding their decisions relative to appropriateness of hospitalization, continued stay, and use of resources. The PA further acts as a resource for the medical staff regarding federal & state utilization, quality regulations, peer-to-peer reviews, documentation consistency, DRG downgrade denials and applicable physician education including documentation of ICD-10 codes/ DRG. The PA works with the EMR team ensuring that the system is optimized for effective and efficient physician use. They will facilitate physician education to ensure accurate and complete documentation for coding and DRG assignments They will perform other duties as assigned or required.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1. Graduate of an accredited medical school.2. Minimum of 5 years' experience in clinical practice or teaching capacity.3. Licensed physician in state.4. Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) required.5. Five years of prior experience managing in a healthcare setting that includes implementing operational plans and analyzing financial and quality data, preferred.6. Prefer experience with electronic health records and billing systems.7. Master’s degree in health administration or other related field preferred.8. Current unrestricted medical license.

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $243,360 to $352,456 on an annualized basis. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
