The Department of Children, Youth, and Families is seeking a Home Finders Social Service Supervisor 5 (SSS5) to join our dynamic team in Spokane. The Opportunity:As the regional expert concerning the placement/respite of children and young adults, regional rate assessments, and the volunteer driver program, this position will supervise an outcome-driven team of seven employees.
Some of what you will get to do:- Apply child welfare practice, principles, law, rule, and policy in assessing and placing children.
- Maintain thorough knowledge and excellent working relationships with foster parents regionally and statewide, placement agencies, other placement coordinators, and office staff.
- Assess needs of children, parents, caregivers, and social workers.
- Communicate placement and placement support stabilization supports to social workers and supervisors.
- Identify and develop placement support and resources.
- Assists in the communication and coordination with other Statewide Regional Placement Leads/Coordinators.
- Apply child welfare practice principles, law, rule, and policy in assessing and intervening on assigned referrals or cases to protect children, plan for permanent living arrangements for children, and assure children's health and education needs are met.
- Review and approve the amount of foster care maintenance payment to be paid monthly to licensed foster parents for children placed by the Department of Children, Youth, and Families into their foster home.
- Review and approve the onboarding of all-volunteer drivers and their reimbursement requests for transporting dependent youth to needed therapies/visits.
- Address personnel or performance issues and initiate corrective or disciplinary action as needed.
- Utilize DCYF computer programs and telephone equipment to support completion of supervisory duties.
Required Qualifications:Eight (8) years of paid social service experience* AND30 semester or 45 quarter credits in a Social Services discipline.
ORA Master's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences or any Master's degree which includes 30 semester or 45 quarter credits in a Social Services discipline AND Three (3) years of paid social service experience* in planning, administering, developing, or delivery of public child welfare, social, health, or chemical dependency treatment programs.
ORA Bachelor's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences or any Bachelor's degree which includes 30 semester or 45 quarter credits in a Social Services discipline AND Four (4) years of paid social service experience* in planning, administering, developing, or delivery of public child welfare, social, health, or chemical dependency treatment programs.
OROne (1) year of experience as a Social Service Specialist 4 (SSS4).
ORTwo (2) years of experience as a Social Service Specialist 3 (SSS3).
AND- The ability to take action to learn and grow.
- The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.
NOTE: A two-year Master's degree in one of the above fields that included a practicum may be substituted for one (1) year of paid social service experience.
*Paid social service experience must include at least one (1) year of assessing risk and safety to children and providing direct family-centered practice services.
In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following:- Previously demonstrated skills in engagement and relationship building.
- Previously demonstrated ability to be able to effectively, clearly, and concisely communicate verbally and in writing.
- Previously demonstrated interest or experience in early learning and/or family support programs in Washington State.
- Previously demonstrated skills in coaching peers.
- Previously demonstrated knowledge of State and Federal policies and regulations related to social, financial, and health programs.
- Previously demonstrated ability to develop and evaluate programs and resolve complex problems related to social, financial, or health programs.

Holidays Full-time and part-time employees are entitled to paid holidays and one paid personal holiday per calendar year.

Full-time employees who work full monthly schedules qualify for holiday compensation if they are employed before the holiday and are in pay status for at least 80 nonovertime hours during the month of the holiday; or for the entire work shift preceding the holiday.
Part-time employees who are in pay status during the month of the holiday qualify for the holiday on a pro-rata basis. Compensation for holidays (including personal holiday) will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status in the month to that required for full-time employment, excluding all holiday hours. Pay status includes hours worked and time on paid leave.
Sick Leave Full-time employees earn eight hours of sick leave per month. Overtime eligible employees who are in pay status for less than 80 hours per month, earn a monthly proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Overtime exempt employees who are in pay status for less than 80 hours per month do not earn a monthly accrual of sick leave.
Sick leave accruals for part-time employees will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Pay status includes hours worked, time on paid leave and paid holiday.
Vacation (Annual Leave)Full-time employees accrue vacation leave at the rates specified in (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Full-time employees who are in pay status for less than 80 nonovertime hours in a month do not earn a monthly accrual of vacation leave.
