Job Description

Position Summary: The successful candidate will be responsible for engineering design of transportation highways including the pavement section, sidewalks, trails, drainage, culverts, nonstructural retaining walls, and signing/marking, using knowledge of roadway engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments with limited supervision. Responsible for business development, financial success, and managing staff for the department. Acts as a technical advisor to less experienced engineers.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate strategic growth plan with office managers and practice leaders
  • Establish and grow market presence in area through marketing and business development
  • Manage financial budget for department and allocate resources accordingly
  • Lead and contribute to the production of proposals
  • Serve as a technical expertise resource to project managers and technical staff
  • Establish resources staffing needs for the section
  • Interview and hire staff for the section
  • Perform performance reviews for staff based on input from project managers on assigned teams
  • Coordinate work-sharing within region and between regions

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


Required Skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Proficient in Microsoft Projects for Project Schedule development
  • Proficient in OpenRoads and/or MicroStation


Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an accredited program
  • Professional Engineer License
  • 10+ years' experience in specialized discipline
  • Project management and business development experience
  • Successfully work and manage multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced team-oriented environment
  • Ability to manage, mentor, and provide guidance and direction to staff
  • Thorough understanding of the KYDOT design standards, policies, specifications, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD)process and plan preparation

Qualifications Preferred
  • Experience collaborating with local clients at the county and state level
  • KYDOT and municipal experience preferred
  • Supervisory experience and leading a multidiscipline team preferred

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
