CDM Smith is seeking a Task Leader to support and lead the technical delivery of highway design projects throughout New England. This is an opportunity to deepen your expertise and expand your influence within an organization that values your continued growth. This position is ideal for a mid- to senior-level transportation engineer who values staying hands-on with technical work while gradually expanding leadership responsibilities at a measured pace. This role can be based in Boston, MA; East Hartford, CT; or Manchester, NH, with hybrid work flexibility. Job Responsibilities Lead the technical delivery of highway design tasks from concept through PS&E. Develop and review roadway alignments, design criteria, construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates. Provide day-to-day technical oversight to ensure quality, schedule, and budget objectives are met. Mentor and review work performed by junior engineers; provide technical guidance and support. Collaborate with Project Managers and Project Technical Leaders on complex DOT projects. Review designs for compliance with federal, state, and local standards; sign and seal documents, as required. Perform site reviews and field studies to support constructible, real-world design solutions. Support proposal and task order efforts, including scope development and technical review. Skills & Abilities Expert Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Expert Knowledge of engineer principles of design. Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.). Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Expert knowledge of federal, state and local regulations. Basic knowledge of design standards (AASHTO, NACTO, etc.). Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline. Professional engineering (PE) license. 7 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. Preferred Qualifications Strong background with CTDOT, MassDOT, NHDOT, and Municipal roadway/highway design projects. Strong task management experience in roadway and multi-modal design projects from preliminary through final design. Drainage network design and analysis experience. Familiarity with proposal development and client presentations. Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads. Working knowledge of OpenRoads Concept Station. #LI-MS1 #LI-HYBRID Amount of Travel Required 10% or less Pay Range Min USD $100,194.00 Pay Range Max USD $175,365.00 Additional Pay Range Information CDM Smith is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate's salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training.
