GPI is seeking a full-time Highway Design Project Manager for our growing Transportation Group in our Boston, MA office. We are looking for an individual that is ready to work collectively with a multi-discipline team of engineers in a dynamic office environment on interesting and challenging projects. Projects in our New England offices involve varying types of roadway, bridge, intersection, and trail designs with a focus on complete streets projects. GPI understands the significant responsibility we have as engineers to provide safe, unique, and context-sensitive transportation solutions to the many communities and clients we serve. GPI offers flexible work schedules with the ability to split time between working in the office and from home. This position provides an exceptional opportunity for career growth as the selected candidate will be exposed to a wide range of design projects. Compensation is commensurate with skills and experience.

Responsibilities:
  • Ability to take the primary supervisory role in the design and development of Plans, Specifications and Estimates for transportation projects under the oversight of the Director of Transportation Engineering
  • Supervising/mentoring team members in the development of transportation design projects
  • Producing designs in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or providing technical design guidance to other team members
  • Developing project contracts, schedules, and budgets
  • Managing projects for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), City of Boston, and/or other Massachusetts municipal clients
  • Presenting highway related design elements to clients and stakeholders
  • Assisting with quality control of construction plans and design documents generated by other team members to ensure quality objectives are met

Qualifications:
  • BS in Civil Engineering
  • Massachusetts PE license
  • Thorough understanding of PROWAG and ADA accessibility standards
  • Proficiency using AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Experience in developing quantity and cost estimates
  • Familiarity with developing specifications and construction bid documents
  • Able to interpret and apply technical information contained in procedures and manuals (including state-specific manuals) to accomplish the design process for assigned projects
  • Ability to work effectively with an interdisciplinary team to meet challenging design and schedule requirements
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills
  • Progressive experience in highway design for public agencies
  • MassDOT and/or MA municipal clients in Metro Boston experience a plus
  • Working knowledge of current NACTO and 'Complete Streets' guidelines a plus
  • Understanding of green infrastructure and sustainable design practices a plus


Requirements

  • Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
  • Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
  • Able to stand for approximately 3 hours minimum a day up to 8 hours
  • Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
