SCHOOL DESCRIPTION

Currently, the Ann Arbor Public Schools seeks a highly competent, creative, and committed school assistant principal to support the extraordinary Huron High School. Recently rated by U.S. News & World Report as a Silver Medal Winner and ranked 45th in Michigan on the Best High Schools list, Huron High School enjoys a long tradition of school excellence. Located near the Huron River, Huron is well known for many strengths, including a diverse student body, professional staff, engaged parents, and strong student performance across academics, athletics, performing arts, and extracurricular activities.

Huron High School is part of the Ann Arbor International Baccalaureate Continuum of PreK - 12th-grade schooling that includes all four IB programs. Huron offers the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) to all 9th and 10th graders and the Career-related Programme (CP) and Diploma Programme (DP) as an option to all 11th and 12th graders. Huron High School is the only school in Michigan to offer the MYP, DP and CP Programmes.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Master's Degree in Education from an accredited institution with emphasis in supervision, administration, curriculum, or related field.
  • Three years of successful administrative experience
  • Five years of successful teaching and/or counseling experience preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound reasoning, thinking, and collaboration skills.
  • Successful oversight of school improvement and accreditation processes.
  • Successful implementation of reform practices that creates and maintains a safe and welcoming school culture with attention to increased attendance and lower rates of discipline/suspensions
  • Successful oversight of special education inclusion, personal curriculum and co-teaching
  • Successful leadership and engagement in innovative work to address achievement and opportunity disparities using data to implement, promote, and assess program effectiveness and improved graduation rates

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Teaching Certificate with secondary level endorsement or special coursework related to secondary education preferred.
  • Valid Michigan administrative certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Meet the criteria established by North Central Association for principals.
