Brief Summary of Work for this Position The High Performance Computing Administrator is a critical role to further research efforts at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. This role will serve as the principal administrator for the university's first HPC cluster, overseeing technical management and planning of the equipment and working with faculty and students to facilitate their research mission.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements - Masters with 2 or more years of experience or a Bachelor's degree with 4 or more years of experience, or equivalent combination of education in Computer Science, Information Systems or other STEM field. Experience may be substituted on case by case basis.
- Two or more years of Linux administration experience.
- Experience with High Performance Computing Systems, including hardware and software installation and maintenance, scheduling, storage, file systems, and high-performance interconnects.
- Proficiency with C/C++, Java, R, Python, Bash, and/or other scripting languages.
- Project management experience.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience - Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other STEM field of Linux administration.
- Experience with architecting, designing, and implementing research computing solutions.
- Consulting experience with faculty, students, and technical
- Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills.
- Strong documentation skills.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit Infrastructure & Operations Services is responsible for the planning, installation, management, and support of UNCW's central computing and storage infrastructure, in addition to its voice and data networks. This includes the infrastructure supporting advanced research computing, distance education, and other academic initiatives. Network Communications including telecommunications, networking infrastructure, both wired and wireless, firewalls, and VoIP.
