Full Job Description
The Expeditionary Systems Engineering Division (ESED) is a component of Corona Division, Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). ESED performs full spectrum life cycle engineering and test support to verify the safety, reliability, and effectiveness of Expeditionary Warfare systems. The primary function of ESED is to provide In-Service Engineering and Test and Evaluation for the Department of Defense (DoD). As part of this function, ESED conducts test operations at regional Southern California ranges such as Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake and at multiple DoD ranges across the United States. This task sets forth the requirements for technical services related to testing to include test planning, test execution, test support, test operations and associated logistics. These services are in support of a wide variety of systems across their life cycle, which include ESED's main focus areas such as Arms, Ammunition, Explosives, Weapons Systems, and associated platforms utilized by the Expeditionary Warfare community. ESED's secondary focus areas such as Sensors and Communications, Mobility Platforms, Systems Integration, and Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) equipment with unique military applications; and other new or existing systems that require independent testing for Expeditionary Warfare.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Heavy Equipment Transport Operator will support the Heavy Equipment Maintenance Lead in managing equipment transportation, maintenance activities, and other technical and administrative support requirements at Naval Surface Warfare Center Corona. Responsibilities include providing technical and maintenance support for heavy equipment, as well as coordinating the movement of various equipment at the Fallbrook operating site and other test range locations on the Test Operations Support Services (TOSS) contract. This position is located in Fallbrook, CA.

What You'll Do

  • Safely operate heavy equipment and vehicles, including conducting pre- and post-trip inspections.
  • Safely secure cargo and ensure compliance with all applicable traffic laws and transportation regulations.
  • Maintain required logbooks, including hours-of-service documentation, and ensure timely delivery of equipment and materials.
  • Perform limited preventative maintenance on heavy equipment, vehicles, and trailers.
  • Coordinate additional preventative and corrective maintenance with third-party vendors, as required.
  • Prepare and submit heavy equipment, vehicle maintenance, and monthly operational reports.
  • Provide operational support by troubleshooting equipment issues, recovering vehicles, and assisting with challenging tasks in the field.
  • Operate manual transmission vehicles and comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and safety requirements.
  • Gather data, compile information, and prepare reports to support operational and maintenance activities.
  • Possess forklift certification or obtain certification following hire.
  • Support inspections, tagging, labeling, shipping, and other established processes and procedures.
  • Bid and proposal support if requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.


What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:
  • The ability to obtain and maintain an active secret clearance.
  • HS Diploma required.
  • At least three (3) years of experience working within an industrial, logistics, or manufacturing/shop floor environment.
  • Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A.
  • Must possess basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess strong time management skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Desired Qualifications:
  • HAZMAT endorsement for CDL preferred.
  • Experience supporting military or government operations highly desirable.
  • At least five or more (5+) years of direct experience in a similar role preferred.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification or equivalent safety certification preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain seated in a stationary position 50% of the time. Must also be able to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking.
  • The ability to lift items that may weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, or recurring and considerable walking, stooping, bending, crouching, and climbing such as performing regular shop activities, inspections, or to observe and study operations in an industrial or comparable work area, or on-board ships, submarines, and/or in weapon facilities.
  • The ability to operate heavy machinery and industrial tools with limited to no supervision. Examples may include but are not limited to: Electric/Diesel Forklift, CNC Milling Machine, Welding/Soldering, CAT III Overhead Crane, pallet jack, "Big Joe" stand-behind pallet lift mechanism, and more.
  • Travel Required ~20% travel required (to test range sites across the southwestern United States - AZ, NV, NM, CA)
