We are looking for a Heavy Equipment Engineer to join our growing team.

This position is located onsite at one of our locations in Sedro-Woolley, WA, Great Falls, MT, or Layton, UT.

Department Summary

We're looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Engineer to lead the design, development, and improvement of large-scale machinery and equipment systems. You'll own projects from concept through fabrication, commissioning, and support, working closely with manufacturing, operations, and customers. This role suits someone who enjoys hands-on problem solving, has deep mechanical design expertise, and can mentor junior engineers.

Roles and Responsibilities

The following essential job functions are performed as a Heavy Equipment Engineer:
• Lead the mechanical design of heavy equipment, including structural frames, drivetrains, hydraulic systems, lifting mechanisms, and custom tooling, from initial concept to production-ready drawings
• Specify and size components such as hydraulic cylinders, pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, structural steel, balancing performance, cost, and availability
• Performs load calculations, stress analysis, and structural evaluations to ensure the safety and reliability of heavy equipment and lifting systems
• Work with fabrication and machining teams to resolve build issues, improve manufacturability, and support weld and assembly processes
• Leads root-cause investigations and hands-on troubleshooting for heavy equipment issues in a live production environment
• Manages multiple simultaneous projects from preliminary design through detail engineering, fabrication, installation, and commissioning in production
• Ensures heavy equipment design and operation comply with applicable OSHA, ANSI, and other industry safety standards and regulations
• Oversee equipment testing, commissioning, and acceptance, and troubleshoot performance or reliability problems in the shop and in the field
• Mentor junior engineers and designers and contribute to engineering best practices and standards
• The incumbent must work well under pressure, meeting and completing multiple deadlines. The incumbent shall, at all times, demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors
• Being at work on time and maintaining good attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of your job
• Perform all other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). Janicki will assist with gaining this access once employed. Special Access Program or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position and requires candidate agreement to enter a Continuous Evaluation program.

Due to our ITAR and EAR regulations, applicants must be a US Citizen or of Legal Permanent Resident Status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b (a) (3).

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
• A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, structural engineering, or a similar field is required.
• Must have at least 10 years of professional experience designing and engineering heavy equipment, material handling systems, or large-scale structural/mechanical systems
• Strong command of mechanical design fundamentals, statics, dynamics, strength of materials, and machine design
• Must have extensive experience performing load and stress analysis for cranes, lifting fixtures, or other heavy equipment
• Must have experience using either NX or CATIA, or similar 3D CAD/analysis software
• Must have strong working knowledge of applicable safety codes and standards (OSHA, ANSI/ASME, CMAA) governing heavy equipment and lifting systems
• Working knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards.
• Must be able to work well in an integrated, multidisciplinary collaborative, team environment including daily interactions with technicians, millwrights, machinists, engineers, and managers
• Must be self-motivated and self-directed with attention to detail
• Must have effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language
• Minimum requirement for all positions is a high school diploma or GED
• Must be able to prioritize and execute tasks in a dynamic environment
• Must be willing to obtain a government issued security clearance

Detailed Wage Information: Wage range for this role is between $130,000 - $170,000, plus benefits and eligibility for a discretionary bonus. Employees can also receive additional pay for off-shifts, off-site work, or access assignments. The range provided is Janicki's estimate of base compensation for this role. Actual pay offered will be based on job-related and non-discriminatory factors such as experience, location, education, training, skills, and abilities.
