What role you will play on our team

The Fired Equipment Engineer applies practical experience in the design, operation, maintenance, and optimization of combustion equipment used in petrochemical and process industries. This role supports plant operations and projects by applying sound engineering judgment, combustion fundamentals, safety standards, and regulatory requirements to fired equipment systems including Fired Heaters, Flares, Heater Treaters, Boilers, HRSGs, and Thermal Oxidizers.

What you will do

  • Technical Support: Provide engineering support to operations and maintenance teams for the design, operation, troubleshooting, optimization, monitoring, and reliability improvement of fired equipment, including fired heaters, flares, boilers, heater treaters, thermal oxidizers/incinerators, and sulfur recovery units.
  • Optimization: Work with operations, maintenance, and engineering personnel to maintain, operate, and trouble-shoot fired equipment throughout the site for optimum efficiency and throughput performance. Perform operational and energy assessments to meet site and regulatory requirements
  • Maintenance Support: Support maintenance planning and execution, including turnaround preparation, online maintenance activities, burner inspection and cleaning, and preventative maintenance strategies.
  • Project Support: Provide technical input and design support to projects involving new, modified, or upgraded fired equipment. Support equipment selection, design evaluation, engineering quality reviews, commissioning, and start-up activities.
  • Standards and Specifications: Apply knowledge of fired equipment standards and codes, including API, ASME, EN, and NFPA, to for sound engineering design and safe operation. Prepare and review technical documentation related to fired equipment, including design calculations, datasheets, specifications, operating envelopes, and risk assessments.
  • Failure Analysis: Perform, lead, or participate in fired equipment failure investigations, including root cause analysis and development of fit-for-purpose corrective and preventative actions to reduce risk.
  • Training and Knowledge Sharing: Train and support operations personnel in fired equipment operation with emphasis on combustion safety, energy efficiency, and throughput performance.


About you

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher level of qualification in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, as certified by an accredited/recognized institution
  • 10+ years of experience in upstream, refining and/or chemicals manufacturing roles
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with APEGA

  • High degree of analytical and technical ability
  • Ability to work across operations, maintenance, and technical teams
  • Ability to communicate complex technical data clearly, tailored to intended audience
  • Strong attention to detail with handling high quantity and quality of work
