Overview

Schedule: Day Shift

Purpose Statement/Position Summary: The Healthcare Interior Designer is responsible for developing and maintaining interior design standards across CHLA facilities, including finishes, furniture, artwork, signages, and wayfinding systems. Produces schematic finish packages based on CHLA finish standards in support of donor funded and capital projects, including development of floor plans, pattern design, nurse stations, elevations, room finishes, etc. Partners with Capital Project Managers and design teams to ensure consistent implementation of CHLA design standards across projects, including review of construction documents. Leads select design initiatives under the direction of the Director of Planning and Design and supports stakeholder engagement, design documentation, and material selection. Leads and supports the planning and execution of interior environments that enhance patient experience, support clinical workflows, and align with regulatory requirements. Serves as a subject matter resource on interior design standards and applications across projects. Independently research, evaluate, and select materials, finishes, and furnishings to support and evolve CHLA design standards. Maintains familiarity with healthcare design regulations and applicable codes (e.g., HCAI, CMS, CDPH) and applies them in project work.

Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience: Required:
  • 5+ years of interior design experience
  • Experience with space planning, finish selection, and design documentation
  • Working knowledge of building codes and safety standards
  • Experience in applying evidence-based design principles to support functionality, safety, and user experience.

Skills:
  • Space Planning & Layout Design
  • Adobe Create Suite
  • Bluebeam
  • Auto CAD
  • FF&E specification experience
  • Revit

Preferred:
  • 3+ years of experience working in healthcare or other regulated environments
  • Familiarity with healthcare design standards, regulations, and evidence-based design principles
  • Evidence supporting construction or capital projects
  • Working knowledge of Revit

Education/Licensure/Certification: Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in interior design or architecture, or related field. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.

Preferred:
  • Certification such as NCIDQ or CID.
  • Ability to learn healthcare-specific regulatory requirements


Pay Scale Information

USD $84,302.00 - USD $144,518.00

The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates who meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description.
